Congressman Lewis (D, GA) was ready to talk to the group, but they didn't give him a chance to speak.

"I was going to say, I stand with you. I support you, what you're down," said Lewis to the media.

He said he wasn't disappointed he wasn't able to address the crowd. Several people CBS Atlanta spoke to were upset.

Michelle Williams was excited to attend the event and no longer wanted to be associated with the movement, citing how Lewis was treated.

"I am angry because this is not what democracy is all about. This is Marxist more Stalin like. Your movement, you're just riff-raff. You're an organized mob," said Williams.

It's sad the double standard the media has for stuff like this.

I will grant you, that the idiot with the bullhorn is an idiot. No other way to describe him.

I could hardly stand listening to that crap... Just hearing the crowd repeating every word sounded as though they were all taking some oath or complete drones. I have heard services in orthodox churches that scare me less- and I just love the "hand flapping." Who elected the jackass with the bullhorn leader and why?!?

After all of the practice that the military has carpet bombing areas I would suggest that they target this group before the stupidity spreads. (Not even referring to the message- just the method.)

The decision to not let Rep. Lewis speak has nothing to do with his race. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hmmm...except when asked by the media if he was disappointed that he was not allowed to speak, Lewis said,

"No, not at all, not at all."

They want congress's attention, but that does not mean they are ready to hear from any of them, as part of this protest is about politicians of all stripes following corporate dictates.

But if it was the other way around and this were a tea party crowd would you conclude differently?

Do you mean if a black Republican Rep. was not allowed to speak at a Tea Party protest?

No worries, Mock, and thanks for your clarification.

Though your question was to Christian, here's my take:

If a black Republican Rep was not allowed to speak at a Tea Party convention or protest I'd want to know why first, and do some research before making a ridiculous public assumption that it was because of his colour.

However, given the awful public posters permitted at Tea Party protests which target your current President's colour, or perceived ethnicity, I can easily see why some would think so.

Apologies for posting this terrible image, but as an example:

what comes to my mind is how one local politician said to a voter "now you listen to me --"

That crowd is not there for the elected representatives to speak to - they are there to be heard.

That rep was totally out of line trying to make that HIS podium. He already has one.

They were right not to allow him to speak.

Actually no, if you bothered to watch it, they wanted to hear Lewis, who is is a civil rights leader speak. The self appointed leaders used procedural reasons to prevent him from speaking. As Reason puts it:

    http://reason.com/blog/2011/10/10/silencing-john-lewis-is-what-d

One important characteristic of mob rule is that it tends to get the outcomes the ruler wants, not the outcomes the mob wants. In this case, the group clearly voted to let Lewis talk, even if that meant risking a slight breach of the day’s agenda. But the point here was not to get a voting result but hive-mind unanimity. Of course unanimity can’t exist among human beings, so the real purpose of the exercise is to keep checking the crowd’s “temperature” until you get the result you want. And what apparatchiks want, always and everywhere, is to put process above product. You can hear that in the iron-in-velvet tones of the Occupiers’ touchy-feely vocabulary

I don't know about that particular sign or the event it came from, but I have talked with many folks who attended various tea party functions in the west and north-east parts of the US, and such signs were not seen at all. I am sure they exist just as I am sure there are bigots, but from all that I see, my opinion is it is small minority, though it could be larger in some areas of the US. I have also seen reports of a few plants, i.e. liberals with such signs. One thing I am convinced of is that some media outlets, such as MSNBC and CNN, go out of their way to give disproportionate coverage of such signs, of people who look weird, of people whose speech does not suggest Ivy League. Just the kind of media we have.

Do you extend that comment to include Canadian riddler78, and his endless stream of unqualified posts about the US, our politics & economy? Or that guy in Australia who's the only 100%, true and certified gay man here on RealJock?

I believe he was going for irony/parody considering the attacks that have been leveled against me.

A weak irony/parody at best. And given SB's history, not a rhetorical device for which he is well known here. But I look forward to hearing from southbeach1500 himself, not his apologist from Canada, if you please.

You can retire now to that private right-wing online assembly point that a number of you occupy and from which you plan your moves here. And take your next instructions.

And yes, I know all about it. It was revealed during the failed coup a number of you guys tried here that involved TropicalMark and PresentMind. A lot of us aren't going to be forgetting that one anytime soon.

Given that you named me specifically - and the double standard that you among others adhere to, I responded. Deal with it.

Further, Southbeach1500 is constantly mocking and parodying - though I can understand how it provides a level of complexity that escapes some.
