'cause if you like it, then you should start doing your barre exercises.

I don't think I've seen a general dance discussion on RealJock ever (if I'm mistaken and you know of one, then kindly link it over), so this is me starting the topic. I'm a classically trained ballet dancer currently studying at the Ailey School here in New York and was wondering if anyone else on here was a dancer. It'd be great to hear about everyone's experiences regarding training, auditions, and rantings so fire away.

    We're real jocks, too!

I'm not a ballet dancer, but I just started taking classes. It is difficult work, but really enjoyable.

I'm not a ballet/contemporary dancer, but I've been dancing Street, Hip Hop, Latin and Reggae for the past 3 years at my school and it's been a blast. I'm co-teaching the Reggae class now too, which is an awesome privilege for me icon_biggrin.gif

I do love to watch contemporary dancing though, it's amazing to watch

I used to train in ballet, but not sure if you'd consider me a Dancer with a capital D any more.
I picked up ballet in College. I was singing at a club and used to stretch out with some dancers in the show. I have really open hip joints, so they suggested I check out a dance class. I went to a studio and the director told me if he could cast me in his Nutcracker then I'd pay no tuition. So I studied with him for about 4 years till I finished college. I did some summer programs and stuff as well. He really encouraged me to pursue it but I think I was already too old when I started, and I wasn't quite ready when I graduated and I freaked out and got a normal 9 to 5 job. I kept dancing as a hobby and started doing musical theatre. I still take a dance class about once a week but mostly I do Jazz now as it feels a bit less formal.
So, again not sure that the professional dance types would really consider me a "Dancer" but I sometimes claim the title of dancer (small d).

This is definitely NOT the choreography of the "Aida" ballet scenes I saw in San Francisco and Stuttgart productions!! Roberto Bolle in a fig leaf:
