    QUESTIONMARK-1.jpg

Let me assure you that sometimes it feels more than a bit weird. The truth is, however, that there are lots of gay Baptists out there. Do you really think there would be any good music in Baptist churches if it weren't for the gay men directing in the choir loft and playing on the organ? (not that organ) 34.gif

No way. Of course, the catch is that most of these men are not open about their sexuality. Some just don't want to talk about their personal life, but most know they can't reveal their sexual orientation or they would be canned. Long before the military adopted it, Baptist churches were perfecting the policy of "don't ask, don't tell." 68.gif

I am certain that one day these churches will have to take responsibility for the abusive and hateful actions they have taken toward lesbian and gay people and their congregations.76.gif

What's really weird: Except for college guys, I can't seem to find a man in this town who wants to date a gay, forty-something, Baptist. Go figure.pirate_2.gif

Your post is quite loaded with politics, religion, and sex.

My family is Baptist as well, although I attend Catholic mass quite a bit. In our choirs, we have young people from school, I rather like listening to them. The director is an old, retired music teacher. She's a hoot. She likes to embarrass everyone who thinks they are better than others. Maybe she's a lesbian? There is this young girl and she has the voice of an angel. She sings Down to River to Pray almost every Sunday due to popular demand. Thus, gays are not necessary for successful religious choirs. Do you know many gay choir directors?

The Baptists are really not that bad. I'm in a small town in TX. It doesn't get more Baptist than this. We don't get the hell/fire/brimstone sermons very often. He doesn't even preach about gays. The minister operates under the policy of "don't ask, don't tell."

Young men may want to date you because you present the image of being successful.

If you are a member of your church and you are donating money to it, isn't your opinion as worthwhile as anyone else's? Have you ever spoken up and denounced homophobia and anti-gay bigotry?
Some of your church-mates may find it difficult to hate on those evil gay people when they find out that one of them is their friend they've known and liked for years.

Weird? Hardly! But in all seriousness, I do understand to a degree. I attended a Baptist church with my parents until I came out and started attending an affirming, yet theologically sound, Methodist church.

Have you considered checking out an American Baptist Church in your area? They are 'mainline' yet sound in regards to theology.

In theory only.....in reality, the powers that be which consist of a Pastor, a Trustee and a Church Secretary make all the decisions. Yes, I have spoken against it many times and our Trustee's own son is openly gay ( although he does not attend our church services).
One main problem that I see is this: 90% of the congregation are aged 70 to 90 years of age and are from the Southern or South-Eastern states. You don't easily change the thought processes of that group of folks. icon_confused.gif

The answer is not what religious denomination you belong to but who you serve. Do you follow the teachings of man(denominations) or do you follow the living Word made flesh who is Yahshua Yahweh's Son. It is quite amazing when you ask people what are you? they reply I am Methodist or Baptist or Catholic when in fact there is only one church and that is made up of all the believers in the name of Yahshua.

It does not matter which denomination you belong to, the truth is these churches are man made they themselves twist the scriptures and use them to persecute Gay and Lesbian people. Honestly they are the real Sodom and Gom of today and when Yahshua returns He will tell them their sins are pride not helping the people and putting burdens on them they cannot handle. The church of man is responsible for many gay suicides and the blood of these children of Yahweh is crying out to Him and they will be appeased but at Yahweh's hand and at Yahweh's time.

Do not feel bad what denomination you belong to and whether they are Gay and Lesbian supporters because ALL denominations will be done away with by the very hand of YAHSHUA when the sky opens and He returns.

I know a few gay baptist and most tend to be lesbians but yeah I could see how that could be a problem. I happen to be Catholic attend a private catholic university... we have a gay/straight alliance organization on campus and a lot of openly gay students (me being one of them) and professors. In fact most of student leadership is made up of LGBTQ people. It's kind of funny but a blessing at the same time.
