I don't know about being obsessed, but I think threads such as this one are a reaction to

    1) allegations that anyone who is opposed to Obama does so because race rather than policy [believe it or not, that allegation was made here as recently as Sunday],

    2) allegations that the Tea Party is fundamentally about racism, or at least is comprised mostly of racists

    3) allegations that any black who is conservative, especially if they become prominent, is a tool, being used by the GOP which needs tokens. I'm not black but I think such opinions are insulting to blacks. My dog in the fight is the observation of the hypocrisy from the left.

I'm not one who puts all that much weight in any poll, because I think most are bogus and intentionally slanted to accommodate an agenda. That said, if there is any truth to this poll, I guess it blows Catfish's theory right out of the water that the deep south would not vote for a black or a mormon.

Racists have always embraced the "house Negro." icon_rolleyes.gif

More than anything, these polls show how screwed the Republicans are that they cannot find a candidate.

When you as an African-American drop the "African" in favor of claiming you are simply "American" while at that very same time minimizing the issue of racism in this country, you are gleefully accepting the role of token/uncle tom and spitting on the graves of those who paved the way for you.

Ah yes, the great race warrior has spoken.

So if your a black man who doesnt think that racism exists all too much in the community today, you are simply a monster? Got it! Glad your community has a great job of valuing other's opinions :-)

I have no doubt that there are many African-Americans who are not self-loathing like yourself, who do not play the victim in such a self-defeating way as you seem to do consistently, who do not carry around a chip on their shoulder as you do, who would beg to differ with you. I still maintain that YOU are one of the biggest RACISTS on RJ.

Recap- My opinion isn't valid because I'm apparently a victim and Herman Cain is a black person who succeed. Also, I'm a race warrior and clearly self loathing.

Again, If I brought up the treatment of black men in the "justice" system, or racist hiring practices, or even the way blacks are treated in daily activities, these facts will either be ignored or flat out denied. Why? Because clearly these "facts" support a reality that goes against the belief system fostered by the unmitigated privilege of some of our more socially ignorant members here.

    And yet, I'm the racist?

Yep, pretty much. How long are you going to continue to wallow in this defeatist "victim" mentality that will surely get you nowhere in life? Do you think Barrack "YES WE CAN" Obama did this?...Herman "If You're Poor, It's Your Own Fault" Cain?...Oprah?...or any of the other millions of African Americans who are living their lives and WINNING at it? WIN is not spelled W-H-I-N-E.

Conservatives have this horrible habit of pointing to the few as if they were the rule, and then attacking the rest as lazy unmotivated whiners. You attempt to absolve yourself from all and any social responsibility by simply throwing your hands up and claiming "well they made it!". No instead you rather wave around your gut reaction and opinions and expect to not only be taken seriously, but to be taken more seriously than the actual information that has been provided time and time again.

I don't think I've ever seen a more complete example of privilege.

See, there you go again, trying to convince the rest of us that only FEW African-Americans succeed, and that "the rule" is that they do not. Sorry, not buying it. There are millions of successful African-American doctors, lawyers, businessmen, business owners, etc, etc, etc. They did not live their lives as defeatists to get where they are in life. YOU, Doom, are the one who needs to accept some "social responsibility" here and quit absolving yourself from the reality that YOU are blaming everybody but yourself for where you are right now. You are young...lots of people out there who are your age and black who are creating their own success stories. Get out there and create one for yourself.

I'm confused as to how this always gets turned around on to me. Where at any point in any of these conversations do I ever claim victim hood or even involve myself in these scenarios outside of my personal experience? Better yet, when has it ever come up that I am a failure except for when you and you're fellow homocons sling the fallacy around.

See, take a good hard look at what you write - in virtually every post. You wonder where the difficulty is?

    Go easy on DoomedAlpaca,

Just today, he was forced to sit in the back of the bus up there in Philly.

Yet another unprovoked personal attack from SB.
You'd think he would have learned not to pull this shit after getting booted off RJ repeatedly for this kind of thing in the past!

And SB's comment (and this whole thread) is also another ugly playing of the race card by the Repubs.
Why can't they stick to the issues the American people really care about?

I have this feeling that if a black person doesnt get hired, he immediately jumps the gun to race. Like "damn, Im black, why didnt they hire me?"

Probably because you think that being black is enough to get a job. Sorry son, sometimes you just werent a good fit...

Right...because it's not like studies show that college and a qualified resume still aren't enough to secure decent employment for many black people.

Right...because its like all white people with a qualified resume and a college degree all have employment.

    Herp de derp!
