It might be the constant walking that's doing it, or I'm not snacking enough, but I'm losing weight on vacation. I've lost almost 3 pounds since last week! It's like 4 months of progress down the tubes!icon_evil.gif

I just had a four day weekend and dropped about 6lbs because I wasn't eating nearly as much or working out as hard. It'll come back though....right?

Depends. I went to europe and lost like 5 lbs... all while drinking beer at nearly every lunch/dinner.

and I wouldnt necessarily think its muscle mass because i think my abs looked better... this could have also been from slight dehydration from the alcohol intake.

I always lose weight on my cycling tours. I was riding in Mallorca last week and despite all the magnificent food and desserts I ate and all the wine I drank, I still dropped a few pounds. My bike computer says I burned over 19,000 calories on the road--that probably has something to do with it. icon_smile.gif

Every time I go on vacation I lose weight. Between eating very sporadically and infrequently, to walking, climbing, paddling, hiking much more than usual, I typically lose 10 to 15 pounds on a two to three week vacation.

I usually lose weight on vacation. I think anytime I'm not sitting for 8+ hours a day at my job, I tend to lose weight as I tend to be more physically active. And while I eat big, unhealthy meals on vacation, I generally don't snack between meals like I do in my daily life.

I don't know what it is, but I eat everything in sight on vacations. I'm constantly hungry. Miraculously though, I don't gain any weight. If I ate that way at home I would be as big as a house.

I lose weight when I go on vacation. I tend to eat a lot more, but the walking burns it all away.

So the damage report is in: I lost 5 pounds just in a week! icon_evil.gif

Walked like 2-3 hours every day while in France. And their portions are much smaller than the US.
No wonder the French are so thin. I did not see a single obese person there (well, the ones that are obese are tourists).
    For 2009 and women:

Always - definitely more active on vacations - I can eat my way through New Orleans or New York and still burn up the calories walking everywhere. Outdoor activities like camping/hiking etc use more energy than sitting on my butt in the car or in front of the computer.

Who cares? You are on vacation, you shouldn't be worried about your weight!

It's like work--it just makes it so much harder when you come back from vacation to gain that weight back.
(Speaking of which, I just spent a half day in the office preparing for office work for tomorrow)

The food is typically worse, and I drink more on vacation, yet I still lose weight!

During my last trip to Hawaii, I was determined to not lose weight so I packed a 5 pound bottle of weight gainer with me and I only lost 2 pounds! icon_biggrin.gif
