New Darren Hayes: Pure pop perfection?

Any other Darren Hayes fans here on RJ? icon_biggrin.gif

I've been a HUGE fan of his for years; he's the former lead singer of the pop group Savage Garden. Since their split, he's had several solo albums out (and he has come out of the closet, too). He's pretty big in the U.K. and Australia, and I think America is missing out.

His earlier solo albums had a hint of electronica in them, but his new album, which comes out this month, sounds like pure pop pleasure. Take a listen to this very well-done video preview ...

Yep, I love Darren Hayes. He's one of the only male singers I like, in fact.

I really liked 'This Delicate Thing We Made' even if there were a few duds.

'The Tension and the Spark' is awesome.

I was wondering what the new album was like. Consistent trend of Aussies being successful in the UK but finding it hard to break the US market - Kylie Minogue being case-in-point.

Agreed, Pure, The Tension and the Spark is one of my favorite albums. Some really angry, bitter—and some really passionate, sexy—relationship songs in there.

Most of his albums have 1 or 2 absolute clunkers that I skip over. But this new one sounds great, start to finish. Have it pre-ordered on Amazon, just counting the days.

Darren Hayes is pretty amazing! I loved him in Savage Garden and have followed his solo career since that time. I especially like how he has changed so much visually throughout his career. I mean his looks are always changing. I don't like the long, disheveled hair look, but he's still hot. He looks better with shorter hair.

I love both the album and his look on his Affirmation cover:

    Glad to see this thread!

This Delicate Thing We've Made - what a concept album.

I started my own thread about Secret Codes and Battleships ( under the guise of Album of the Year icon_twisted.gif .)

    There's some video links too:

Really looking forward to hearing the complete version of Taken by the sea and Hurt.

Darren did a small Borders tour to support This Delicate Thing .. maybe he will visit the US again?

Yeah, I really like Taken By the Sea, Hurt and Roses. But there really aren't any that don't sound great on here.

And interestingly, I can't ever recall seeing a preview-type video of a new album quite like this before. It's really well done and very smart, IMHO. Or is this a new trend that I've just missed??

Yes although I think his solo work is better.

Others may/ may not agree with that..

Agreed. "I like the way" from The Tension and the Spark is pretty much tied with it, though (more sexy than Insatiable's sensual vibe). Check it out:
