Gay Sex in the 70s

I just watched part of the documentary. It talked about how in the 70s gay men would pass men on the street, and immediately leave and go and have sex. And how the piers and trucks in New York were filled on the weekends and at night with thousands of guys having sex out in the open.

Do you think that gay guys today are still having sex out in the open? Or have gay men started coupling more and this is frowned upon?

Frowned upon? How long have you been part of this convent? You'd be driven out of town with pitchforks and scythes by all the prudes if you admitted to such behavior on here.

I believe that there is not much going on in cruising areas anymore. A lot more hook-ups get arranged over the web, a4a, grindr, Craigs List etc and happen at people's homes.

I like to have sex outside at night of course where the area is secluded and its not out in the open, and people being around, don't have to worry about getting in trouble... I've done the beach hookup, behind a building, a wooded area.. Cruising areas are still around and hookups still happen outside of nightclubs and bars... Back in the 70's cops were probably not as aware of cruising spots as they are now.. Meet up with someone online and find a spot if you and that person can't host.. At least u won't have to worry about picking up an under cover cop..

Yeah, that is hilarious. I have seen all of the "cruise you lose" signs. It is just funny to see how it was forty years ago with people being more open and waving their freak flags.

if you like that go to "the Pines" and watch the men all fuck in public. Cell phones have dropped the number that do this, but it still goes on-not my thing at all.

Since I was around in the 70's, living at that time in San Francisco, I would say that the cruising scene has not diminished by that much, although it has gone up and down in wide swings, most appreciably after the beginning of the AIDS, SIDA scare. There maybe a lot more hook ups happening by way of the net now, but now there are so many more gay men and closeted married guys so the proportion of men out there fucking in the open has caused the number of incidents to basically stay the same as in the 70's or possibly have increased a bit.

I saw that. When it came out, it was deemed really homophobic and was boycotted by the gay community.

It was wild. I am amused that Al Pacino did that, and later went on to do Scarface.

Yeah, they were for that. I don't get why they were upset. But I guess I had to be an adult at that time.

I remember getting stoned and blowing my very first boyfriend right on the street in San Diego. It was awesome! Crude & lewd for anyone who might have seen us, but it was unforgettably hot for me.

I think stoned young guys still do that kind of thing, especially if they are crazy, horny, and experiencing a newfound liberation after growing up sexually repressed. That was certainly the norm for those of us coming of age in the 1970's, and I don't think it's that much different now for a lot of guys. There has been progress, obviously, but (just as obviously) there are still a lot of places in this world - and in this country - where you don't speak a word about your feelings toward men. When you finally break out of that it can make you react in dramatic, crazy ways.

And, after all, we're men. If women would put up with wild sex in the streets, you'd see it every day, everywhere. It's not like straight guys don't want that, too.

As a teen in the late 70's I saw a good amount of sex at backyard parties and other outdoor places. I also saw plenty of raw sex at huge concerts - right there in front of anyone and everyone, often in the upper seats. I remember guys pairing up on staircases of houses - like Noah's Ark - waiting for empty bedrooms at parties. In college I know plenty of fun times happened in training rooms and little alcoves off the locker rooms. Fun times were taking place out on the golf course and in quiet areas under the trees on campus. Things were crazy and wide open before the AIDS crisis came along.
