I'd like to know how to file for foodstamps when my straight parents claim me as a dependent and don't assist me with living costs.

Are your parents paying for your college expenses?

I have no idea how many RJ'ers are parents. Curious to know though.

A very small portion. I'm paying for most of it through loans in my name and scholarships.

And I guess, technically you are still living at home..so that gives them the right to claim you....until you turn 25 or finish college, whichever comes first. icon_wink.gif

This isn't necessarily true - it might be by state, but in Michigan it does NOT matter if you live with your parents or not.

Under 25? Not married? You are a dependent.

NO questions asked. No stipulations, nothing. A friend and I have had to deal with this all before. It's absolute bullshit. He hasn't lived at home for YEARS, his parents didn't have jobs, and he hadn't had a dime from them in longer than he hadn't live at their house.

Financial aid says : still a dependent.
