Why do some guys abdominals show 100% of the time?

My abs basically only show when I'm flexing, laughing or coughing.
Some (no fat twinks normally) abs show all the time. They walk down the street topless and they show. Watch TV and the abs show.
    WTF?
I do know you need to be conscious of your stomach all the time. The guys with keg stomachs stopped using their core a long time ago, but geeze, Im not gonna walk around and constantly flex my stomach!
    Thats pretty . . . . vane.
    Another question . . . . .
On here their was a question of why some guys 6packs pretrude out of there stomach as if they had a pot belly with abs?
Answer was - Steroids. Everything grows, even your stomach.
Well . . . . I dont take Steroids but I do take suppliments. Ive noticed my stomach sticks out farther then my chest!
    WTF?

Visible abs are two parts good genetics, one part regular training, and five
    parts what you eat.

Body fat distribution also blurs things. I might have to get down to 4%BF before mine show, because I tend to gain on my waist and ass before putting fat any where else, and I'm still wrestling with a pad of fat directly over my abs that absolutely refuses to die.

They don't drink enough beer! LOL! Seriously, It's mostly about diet and metabolism! I do very little for my abs and have never had a problem. However, I lift legs like crazy and can't seem to get them to look like anything more than what sticks out of the nest. We all have things we don't like about ourselves.

For it to show all the time you need a low body fat percentage, or extremly developed abs.

On the second case, it is usual they protude even more than the chest. The Rectus Abdominus is particulary receptive to weight training and grows rather fast. I noticed I was having the same problem and switched from training with lots of weights to very little weight and tons of reps. Focusing more on your chest (and lower back) helps balance the equation.

Ok I'm being a smart ass here, but your fat cells don't "die" when you lose weight. A fatter version of yourself will have the same number of fat cells (providing you don't become morbidly obese). Sorry icon_razz.gif

P.S. Men are just more likely to have fat stored in the belly over the hips/butt/thighs because of our hormone differences than women

It probably has to do with genetics. I used to do a ridiculous amount of cardio/dieting and I still had belly fat. Certain people just have fat in areas that other people don't.

Actually, it seems they do die, but it's a rather long process, I don't remember the exact figures, but something like 10% per year.
While the multiply in number fast when you put weight on.

THX to everyones thoughts and realitys! Liposuction might just happen at 40 if I'm still battleing this crap!
    I try to follow rules!
    -Dont eat after 8pm.
-Do cardio before you eat breakfast.
    -Drink milk instead of cream.
Im trying to clean up my diet but its so damn hard when you love mommas fatty cooking!
But I'm doing new streaches and I learned 2 new lower ab workouts so we'll see!
I see some results but I just wish I saw more faster!

I was always told it was because of low body fat count. A guy I know says that he has 0% body fat and that he's all muscle, which makes his abs show up all the time.

On me, suddenly, a few weeks ago, boom! Abs. When I bear down hard under proper lighting conditions. Call me supersticious but I'm waiting another month or two to count whether I have six or eight for fear I'll jinx myself and they'll disappear. Next up? Apollo's belt.

Ah yes ... Adonis Belt and abs.

I have both, but the cheeky little bastages will only show if the lighting is jusssst so, and I am facing the mirror with a twist here and a bend there...

Or, oddly enough, if I jump up and down a bit, the wee bit of subcutaneous fat covering them will shift and I can catch a glimpse of the prize.

Which is better than a year ago, when that sort of jumping was only pure blubber flouncing about.

Perhaps by summer '12 if I stay on track and continue to avoid those nasty refined carbohydrate poisons my co-workers like leaving out...

I'm not sure about the not eating after 8 thing. My understanding is that its a myth.... At the end of the day it doesnt really matter when you eat, its more about what you eat in totality over a day, compared to how much you burn over the same day.

Not sure why you'd need to do cardio BEFORE breakfast either? What have you heard about that?

Those R just rules Ive been told over the years by people with amazing abs . . . so I cant argue with them!
    Everyones genetics are different though!
I was once told to do leg lifts till I cry! "F" that!
I only do 30 max a day . . . but thats with the other 200ish ab work outs I do!

I pick 10 out of the thousands that R possible and do 20 each.
The leg lifts are normally my second last one and I cant do any more except the . . . um . . . "butterfly" I call it I guess!

Its when u lay on your back . . . legs are in a diamond . . . . bottom of your feet are touching (souls not sides) . . . . knees are apart . . . . bodies on the edge of the bed with ur ass still on it but ur legs can go farther down . . . . theighs go even with ur core . . . . calves R dropping over the bed . . . . and u roll up till ur butts in the air and ur knees eventally touch ur arm pitts.

New one . . . kinda yoga . . . therapist taught me this . . . . lay flat on your back . . . make sure your lower back is still touching the ground (or close as you can) . . . lift ur feet about a cm and hold for 30 seconds . . . do that 3 times!

Doing that is finally showing me the last 4 bottom abs . . . slowly!
Ive been at it for 4 months . . . but its coming!

For your abs to show you have to be a the right body weight for your frame... which is less than the weight most guys stay at.

Some of your rules are just wrong.

    1. Calories don't care when you eat them. That's one of the oldest myths around.
    2. Cardio should be done when you have more energy, rather than less....and before breakfast is not ideal because you haven't fueled the body yet.
    3. Milk can be just as fatty. You have to drink non-fat or 1% to see any difference.

I dare you eat nothing throughout the entire day and eat 1800 calories worth of ice cream RIGHT BEFORE you go to sleep. We'll see what your bod looks like in a month.

    OK. What flavor?

I think what jpTHEROYALFLAMINGBITCHFROMHELLva is trying to say is that the concept of "Never eat after 7PM" or variations there-of are blown WAAAAY outta proportion.

The idea is not to take in all of your calories at a time of day when most people are about to become the least active - especially if weight loss is the goal. If you are regularly active and building muscle though, it really doesn't matter when you eat (assuming you are not training for competition). It is more important WHAT you eat - and what you do after you eat it.

It is also ESSENTIAL to eat REAL food - therefore the ice cream example is not a good one. Also starving yourself all day then consuming fat and refined sugar (as in ice cream) is the WORST way to do anything.

Eat 1800 calories of fruit. You won't get fat.

According to your posts you live on pudding, cake, butter and pie, Kristoff. Merely reading all the sensible words in the world will make no difference for you.

Judging by some the things you write in your posts - your abs are the least of your worries.
