Im wondering how many sets you should do for one muscle group?

So say for chest, is it best to do 4 different kind of sets or 6, 7, 8?

Cuz I will normally for one muscle group do between 5-7 different sets, and my reps vary from 5-8

Thanks for the advice in advance

I feel like I just answered this..

I do 6 sets per bodygroup in a reverse pyramid style, so 2 sets of 8, 10, 10

And usually 3-4 bodygroups per workout

I do only one body part per day plus abs, 4or 5 exercises per body part and usually 10reps per exercise.
The real question shouldn't be what's everyone else doing tho. The question is :whatever you're doin does it make you sore? If not, you need to step it up. Increase the weight or increase the reps....or maybe even both.
    GOod luck.

I asked this question a few days ago. I do 6 sets per muscle group every time I work out and I hit each group twice a week. I'm probably going to add more sets for the bigger muscle groups like back though. I just started working out so my advice might not be the best, but I'm seeing results.

Ill be honest I didnt look to see if anyone else posted something similar

But Ill do Shoulders/ Back/ Chest/ Arms/ Legs (Each on their own day and I will mix in abs)

For cardio, I do 15 mins before my work out, and each week i switch from Treadmill-Bike- elliptical-Stair Master, just so my legs are doing something different each week and not the same thing over and over

The reason I ask about the Sets is my friend was saying that, that is way to much and it can damage the muscles, So I thought I would ask on here and see what others say

Damaging the muscles is the point lol. You want micro-tears that will encourage the body to overcompensate by healing and hypertrophy (grow) the muscle.

So, when you say chest has a day.. are you doing 5-7 sets of a bench press? Or are you splitting it between decline, incline etc.,?

For legs and arms its a little more obvious to split I guess.

If you're hitting each body part only once a week I would definitely recommend at least 9 sets for each muscle group. The good thing about hitting parts once a week is that you're giving your muscles more than enough time to recover so overtraining is less of an issue Imo. I'd like to see if more experienced bodybuilders would agree with me though.
