Trying to Get over the Creeps over What My Asian Friend Told Me (Diabetes and Urine)

He told me his mom cured her diabetes by drinking her own urine.

(I was calm and teachable. Now, I have a bad case of the creeps. You couldn't tell by looking at me. As an aside, that just goes to show you, it's hard to tell when someone needs a hug or a holding).

So, I googled Drinking Urine and Diabetes.

Urine is about 95 percent water, 2.5 percent urea and the remaining is a mixture of minerals, salts, hormones and enzymes. ...

Urea actually has many commercial and pharmaceutical uses including topical creams and fertilizers (although those products usually are made with synthetic urea). It is non-toxic when ingested in small amounts and has a purifying effect, able to remove congestion and mucus in the body. It can help relieve constipation, and is believed to be a barometer for the overall health of the body. In theory, by drinking one's own urine, the body is able to see what needs correcting. This is part of the premise in the use of urine in cancer treatment. Some cancer cell antigens are transferred through urine and by drinking urine the body may be able to create antibodies to the cancer cells. Just imagine, the secret to our health may have been inside us all along...

And of course Wikipedia came up with something.

    # # #

Urine is salty, so do not use it for survival because it won't quench your thirst. Use it for survival if you can make a solar still to filter out the salt.

Drink the urine of the healthier or healthiest person. However, you have to drink your own urine for the fighting cancer benefit.

Drink midstream urine because bacteria needs to be flushed. This makes me think one should not let the first drops of precum touch one's tongue--one should hand-job a man until he pre-cums some. [Question, how long does it take for the bacteria to get there? If he urinated within 15 minutes, would the precum be free of bacteria?]

Is there a Biology major, pre-Med, or doctor in the house?

    Thanks,

Gotta run an errand. Will be back later today.

Along with blood type is secretor type (secretor or non-secretor). If a person is a secretor, there probably would be a preference for the same blood type when consuming any of another's body fluids (French kissing included).

Back to the elderly woman drinking her urine, my friend said she did cure her diabetes.

    Seriously???

    I mean seriously?

Okay...here's a lesson for anyone who believes drinking pee will cure them of diabetes...this is what's going to happen with this 'cure'

    Urine biochemistry and diabetes 101

If you have diabetes when your blood glucose gets high enough (above the renal re-absorption threshold of 7mMol) you start to spill glucose into your urine.

Then you start getting tired and thirsty and peeing a lot...because the increased glucose upsets the osmotic balence. So... if you start drinking your glucose laden urine your going to see an improvement in her diabetes symptoms because she's putting more and more glucose into the system... Less cycling between hyper and hypoglycemia.

    So you think she's 'cured'

    This is bad...REALLY BAD

Then she's going to start loosing weight and spilling keynotes into her urine which are going back into her body...

Then the glucose will make her kidney's fail and spill serum albumen(blood protein) into her urine... and now she's putting glucose, protein and keynotes into her body....and bacteria too, her urine will no longer be sterile because bacteria love glucose.

and this is where it gets EVEN WORSE.

The glucose will damage her blood vessels and the bacteria will feast on her sugar laden tissue, she'll lose her legs to gangrene, while her liver fails from all the keynotes and kidneys from all the glucose

    And then...well... she Dies

And that's pretty much the end...She dies

Unfortunately medicine is practice and just that. What works for one person may not work for another. As far as I've researched there still is no cure for diabetes.

However, it has been known to psychologically think yourself healthy and healed. IE) HIV, cancer, etc... The mind is a powerful thing.

Yoga is a path (psychological thinking); way to enlightenment. Some practices teach urine consumption to better connect with the Self. Urea is in many cosmetics. I've used it topically on my skin (sexual and non-sexual practices). I've also drank my own and a few others' urine (again sexual and non-sexual practices). Urea is toxic in the blood stream but so is alcohol.

    That's all.

    Mscl Drew: Seriously???

SC: My friend was serious about it. It's not often when a co-worker friend opens up and tells you about issues of elderly parents.

SC: Interesting. So, after getting off the urine, she might see diabetes again.
I couldn't follow you further, not only because she stopped drinking urine after the "cure" but because I don't know what a keynote is. I never heard the biological term keynote before.

Isn't a certain type of diabetes prevented by a low-calorie diet?

What he said, blame the iPad auto correct...

They're a byproduct of incomplete metabolism of fat in the absence of glucose...or in the presence of large quantities of glucose that can't be metabolized

and to answer your question... no if she continues to drink urine and makes no lifestyle changes she will worsen the symptoms of her progressive disease

    Diabetes

    1.Lack of insulin production.
    2. The body's cells are no longer receptive to the insulin.

Insulin is a protein synthesized in the beta cells of the pancreas. Drinking urine will not solve problems 1 or 2. MYTH BUSTED! icon_razz.gif

Urine is basically sterile. There are some bacteria present, but unless there's an active infection, there are more bacteria on the hand and in the mouth.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidThe only thing I have ever heard was that if a person is concerned about developing diabetes they can taste their own urine to see if it tastes sweet. If insulin production fails some of the undigested glucose goes right into the urine and will make the urine sweet.
    .

I think thats diabetes mellitus... not all types of diabetes... but yes.. its called "mellitus" (honey-like) because they would taste it to diagnose it

Again...no. Positive thinking is not gonna cure you of cancer or HIV. If this were the case, we'd be working on happy pills and forms of mental hypnosis to make people think positively and we would eradicate these diseases. Does having a good attitude and not being depressed help bolster the immune system? Yes...

As for MuchMorethanMuscle's post on drinking urine, that's actually how Diabetes mellitus used to be tested for...waaaaaayyy back before we could check for blood glucose levels (I'm glad I didn't practice back in those days)...

And, for the other post about someone saying that diet can cure diabetes and another one saying it couldn't...

Diet and exercise are the only thing that can cure Diabetes Mellitus II (only type II, however). If changes in lifestyle and weightloss are achieved, insulin resistance will decrease and the pancreas doesn't have to keep pumping out all that insulin (Type II can be "cured."). a note on this is that this is in patients who don't have a strong genetic component and whose diabetes is caused by their obesity and diet.

However, if you have it for a long time, you burn out and cause scarring to the pancreas, and no amount of decrease in insulin resistance is gonna save your ass as you lose the ability to produce the necessary amount of insulin.
