Some of the other oldsters/geezers/wheezers around here might find this piece interesting. Morrison was as transformative as it got for the late 60s, and remains 40+ years later, still one of my favorites.

There are more here than I thought there'd be. I just did a profile search of over 55 and there's 9,600 of us seniors, or nearly so, on here. Our age group sure remembers The Doors.

I saw him twice live, Cobo in Detroit and The Allen in Cleveland. I was pretty fucked up both times. I would have loved to have seen him in a small venue like Marty Balin's club, The Matrix in SF. Balin was in Jefferson Airplane.

By the time I was old enough to escape the house, the Doors were at larger venues. I got away with the Cleveland show because I told my parents that I was going to CSO, which I did frequently.

In spite of being as old as I am, I would have liked to be a few years older so getting out to this stuff wouldn't be a constant battle with the parents. They didn't find out for three years that I went to Woodstock instead of 'just ' camping. We, we sorta did go camping but it was bit noisey icon_wink.gif

He was insane live, scary in fact so that's why you had to fucked up to see him. I swear, there was no one there not on something

I would have loved to be in LA for this one.

one of my all-time favourite bands.

Two of my favourite songs were always, "People are Strange" and "My Wild Love."

Our hallucinations weren't all that lucid!!! I don't know how the hell we got home from some of these. Most of my friends did acid, but I would only do shrooms - bad enough

This stuff live was just incredible and very different each time.

Acid scares me, too, but that's coming from a guy that doesn't take any medications... If I'm gonna poison my brain, let that poison grow in the ground (or someone's shoebox of cow shit) and make the sky turn into a snowglobe icon_biggrin.gif

good god . . . Morrison? Really? I can't imagine a less gay icon. Why not drool over Hank II?

. . . the man was an untalented cliche and he died the part . . .

    . . . "just you and I"?

I saw a little too much from some of my friends on acid. I was frankly scared of it and certainly uneasy with the possiblity of driving when an unwanted flashback started.

    Yes, Jim Morrison!

Thank God once in a while. Not everything needs to go tweet tweet boom boom at a 120 beats per minute.

Was George Washington a Cliche president too? How can an early example from a group be a cliche? Who said he was a gay icon? Go be grumpy elsewhere.

Do we REALLY need everything to be gay in our lives? 'Gay' is frankly way down the list of who I am on the list of life's priorities. It's just not that simple or at least to me it's not.

Tomorrow or given its 4:30 AM, I should say this morning, up early, wake the old 49 yr old Pontiac up and off to the drag strip for the last time this season. That's not very gay either, but far more fun to me than hanging in some gay bar.

And now I'm listening to Keith Jarrett who could appear just as possessed.

    It's almost distracting.
