Reaction 1: Who is this woman in an ugly dress and why should we care?

Reaction 2: There must be quarters of the right who know that they are so fucked in November (with a veto proof majority in the House and a near filibuster proof majority in the Senate looming large in addition to the presidency) that assassination is their only hope.

I am compelled to agree.

This little slip of the tongue should have cost her her job and it brings to light the issue of Mr. Obama's safety, should he come close to securing the US presidency. I think we are in for a very tense but interesting ride in the months and possibly years to come.

Reaction to what?

Slip up. So some conservative bitch is showing her true feelings. Why the need for an outcry?

I can't tell, does she work for the network or is she just some "expert"?

They'll let it slide because she's a female.

I'm not saying that to be sexist or anything, but if it was a man making the comment I think it would've gotten a lot more attention. People just don't associate women with that kind of violence, and the fact that she's probably someone's mother makes it excusable.

She is Liz Trotta, a Fox News contributor. They probably won't let her on the air for a while during this backlash, but she'll return eventually.

Ok, now imagine the SH*T-STORM that would follow if CNN or MSNBC advocated McCain's assassination. Would any other network in America be allowed to continue to broadcast?
Kerry got 'swiftboated' in 2004, but I guess that's not good enough for the right-wing anymore.
I just have to wonder how much farther they're going to go.

Oh, that's Liz Trotta, former employee of Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Washington Times and a regular Fox contributor now.

Believe it or not, Trance, it's usually considered reprehensible to advocate assassination of a presidential candidate.

I really don't see anything wrong with this. The fact she was laughing denotes that she doesn't actually mean she wants him dead.

I have made loads of comments about David Cameron, the Conservative leader in the UK along those lines, I don't really want him dead. Furthermore during the 80s many people, especially those in poorer areas of the country actually wanted Margaret Thatcher dead.

I'm not American, and don't watch FOX so I have no idea who she is. If she is a regular news presenter then I would be annoyed about her impartiality, however if not then she was making a joke about a slip of the tongue.

eh... if it wasnt for the simple fact that this has been a fear of many in america that Obama may be killed i would be inclined to agree with you and say that this was not a big deal. but seeing that since he announced his plan to run, he and his family have received death threats i think this is a little inappropriate. he has had to have a large security detail follow him around longer than any other candidate in the race so far because of the threats that have been thrown at him. this was not the place nor the time to make such an insensitive comment. her laughing just shows her ignorance and lack of understanding at how dire the situation is.

I don't care if it's a black, white, hispanic, asian, middle eastern, democratic, republican, independant etc issue. It DISGUSTS me that it's possible that his two young girls might eventually end up seeing/hearing this!!!

Wow... how can someone so ill spoken be allowed to speak live on television.

That's what I call bad tv. icon_neutral.gif

Sounds like she just really can't keep it together, not so much that she wants Obama assassinated.

I have to agree. I think the headline is completely dishonest. You post one 14-second clip of some little known guest on a Fox show who acknowledges, and seems to dismiss, the idea that some would want to assassinate Obama, and purport that that indicates Fox Network supports assassinating Obama?

I'm no fan of the conservative right, but that's just ridiculous hyperbole that waters down legitimate criticism.

That she laughs about it nervously is what bothers me. In that moment of stumble, she reveals part of her character she likely didn't intend. So while one can't cast an entire network as evil - at least not based on this one incident from Fox's eight trillion other idiocies - one can cast her Freudian slip as...well, stupid. Both the revealed idea and the fact that she admitted it.

British humor and American humor are on different parallels. Keep in mind that in our recent nation's history, we've endured the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. that has caused a great bitterness and racial and political divide in our country that it's effect are very noticeable in our current national political campaigns. With all due respect, you really will never understand the sensitivity or gravity of these assassinations as our country does.
