I got a voice mail and come time to return the call, I get so nervous to dial and start talking! After everything starts I'm fine, but I have no idea why the dialing and introduction is so nerve jarring for me.

I'm an excellent public speaker so it confuses me why I get so nervous talking on the phone!

Is this the case for anyone else? Or am I just a weird kid icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm terrible at phone calls or even public speaking. So what was special about this call? was it someone you met?

I think people get nervous talking on the phone because a lot of the times people just "run out of things to say". And it becomes very awkward, especially when you sense it's time to hang up but you've only been talking for like maybe 1 minute or 2. That can dampen a supposedly close friendship.

You're talking into a vacuum when you talk on the phone. When you talk face to face, you can see the other person's body language. Many people can interpret body language instinctively. The rest of us are body-language deaf. Your anxiety is from losing one of your senses during the conversation on the phone.
