Why are gay men so obsessed with astrology

    Seriously... Why?

All i know is I'm a Libra, beyond that I know nothing and care to know nothing. I swear everytime I meet a guy they ask my sign and try to tell me stuff about my personality from it.

    I don't get it.

Any other guys who don't care about astrology and think its a contrived, unoriginal (and sad) pickup attempt?

    Any pro astrology people? Reasons?

    I'm not a brosexual...and I'm not on the bro-low. Okay, bro?

So what's wrong with guys being into astrology? I see that as a sign of mental-health. People who are willing to explore ideas/philosophy's outside of what they understand tend to have strong mental and reasoning skills.

I had no idea it was a gay thing. I usually hear chicks talking about it, not gay men. Maybe it's just in your area.

I suspect the perception just another vocal minority issue.

Happened upon these poll results last night in a mag a friend sends me...

How often do you read your horoscope?

    ..........................All........Men.........Women

    Every day............6%.......4%.............9%
    Once a week.......6..........5.................6
    Only if I happen
    to see it.............44.........38...............49
    Never, I don't
    believe in it........43..........51...............35

"conducted by CBS News....random sampling of 1,165 adults..interviewed by telephone August 19-23, 2011."

I've never heard of this and would even go as far to say we should revoke the ops gay card. He clearly doesn't understand what gay men want (fashion, musicals and dance).

It's one of those weird things that just refuses to die for some reason.

I don't believe in reading the star signs as in "today you will..." whatever, but the characteristics of a 'typical' Aquarius (mine) are totally spot on, so I don't really understand it!

And you can cite which study that correlates believing in astrology to mental reasoning skills?

Honestly there is nothing wrong with believing in astrology, but almost every guy I meet asks me my sign. No need to b so defensive over astrology confederate. I mean astrology is a sign of mental health? Really?

Anyway I have an analytical mind. I have a B.S. in neuroscience and find it hard to suspend my beliefs for anything without experimental proof.

So y don't u tell us why u believe in it then?

I was wondering the same thing, though it's not just gay men...it's lots of people.
Learning about astrology can be kinda fun, but actually believing it is rather stupid if you also study astronomy.

i don't even know what sign i am. I always laugh when someone who's having trouble in a relationship tells me "well, he's a *insert sign* so he's always *insert associated quality*. I"m like, that's not because he's a *sign*, that's cuz he's an *insert expletive*

Way back when I read newspapers on paper, it appeared on the comics page. I read it like I read everything else I could get my hands on, even cereal boxes and tomato cans.

I think the tomato cans were the most informative AND they had pretty pictures.

I dont understand why ppl think that.. I've studied both, and I still feel it makes some sense lol

But then again Ive also never understood why ppl say shamanism makes no sense if you study scientific medicine...

To me its like saying Beethoven has no feeling or meaning if you can analyse the sound waves with math and physics......

One entirely doesnt contradict the other, if you analyse it properly

Because astrology assumes that the placement and timing of the stars somehow affects our personalities, thoughts, love life, and other things that happen in our daily lives.

Astronomy shows us that stars and other heavenly bodies have no effect on us, unless one goes supernova and sends a massive gamma ray burst that wipes us out.

    ???

Lol Im sorry Paul for laughing... but you have no proof of "showing" either one of the above... because it cant be "shown"..

now if that means you dont want to believe something that cant be shown.. that to me makes sense.. that is a good reason not to believe in it

But to believe that Astronomy "shows" that there is no effect.. ehm..... I've never seen proof of that anywhere....

Now obviously, I have also never seen proof that "shows" me that there IS an effect.... so I can choose to be skeptical...

but I cant choose to see that anything has been shown icon_smile.gif

Not sure why anyone subscribes to Astrology... or any other kind of magic, for that matter.

It's amusing to read about it on the placemats of Chinese restaurants, but that's about it.

I am really not that much into that but my Virgo info on my page is 100% accurate. I don't know how they do it . It says I am a fighter, dominate, the one who waits, rebells if held. Maybe it does hold some truth to it. Val

I can't even be skeptical about astrology. It just makes no sense to me. The idea of star placement (aka: formations, signs, etc) affecting a person's behavior based on the month they were born is somewhat ludicrous to me.

However, astronomy has shown the lack of effect caused by stars...other than the fact that we're all "star dust" in the most literal sense.

Oh, and I've never met a person who completely matched their zodiac's predictions...with the exception of the Chinese zodiac (I am 100% Dog). icon_wink.gif
