I'm curious as to whether it is possible to lose body fat without cardio.
If its about creating a calorific deficit then surely by eating less food you can do that anyway and weight lifting should excite your metabolism enough to do the rest.

    Um... why do you care?

(I'm just experimenting with trying to keep my metabolism high enough this week to keep the electric heating turned off.)

The InternetsAngelo Tremblay, Ph.D., is a researcher at the Physical Activities Sciences Laboratory, Laval University, Quebec, Canada. Tremblay divided 27 inactive, healthy, non-obese adults (13 men, 14 women, 18 to 32 years old) into two groups. The first group was subjected to a 20-week cycling endurance-training program of 30 to 45 minutes sessions, 4 or 5 times a week. The intensity level began at 60% of heart rate reserve and progressed to 85%, which is more intense than usually prescribed for weight or fat loss.

The second group did a 15-week program of mainly high-intensity-interval (HIT) training. To begin with, because the participants were not accustomed to exercise, they started with 30-minute sessions of continuous exercise at 70% of their maximum heart rate. Then the group quickly progressed to 10 to 15 bouts of short (15 seconds progressing to 30 seconds) or 4 to 5 long (60 seconds progressing to 90 seconds) intervals separated by recovery periods allowing the heart rate to return to 120-130 beats per minute. The intensity of the short intervals was initially fixed at 60% of the maximal work output in 10 seconds, and that of the long bouts corresponded to 70% of the individual maximum work output in 90 seconds. Intensity on both was increased 5% every three weeks.

The researchers calculated that the group doing long slow distance exercise burned more than twice as many calories while exercising than the group doing high intensity intervals. However, skinfold measurements showed that the HIT group lost more subcutaneous fat. Even more interesting was the fact that when the difference in the total energy cost of the program was taken into account the subcutaneous fat loss was ninefold greater in the HIIT program than in the traditional long slow distance cardio program. What this means is the HIIT group got nine times more fat-loss benefit for every calorie burned exercising.

To examine how this could be possible the researchers took muscle biopsies and measured muscle enzyme activity to determine why high-intensity exercise produced so much more fat loss. What they found was compared to endurance exercise high-intensity intermittent exercise causes more calories and fat to be burned following the workout.

Yes its possible if you do it correctly and have the proper diet to go a long with it. But more body builders tend to do that. Adding cardio in I believe balances everything out. You don't have to over due cardio 2 or 3 times a week is enough if doing it correctly and efficiently.

Are you a little obsessed with fat lose? This is your second post today about this topic!!! Dude seriously, you have like 0% body fat, you have nothing to worry about and caloric deficit is the last thing i think you should do. Just keep your life balanced and happy and don't obsess about it. You look great.

Cardio is the least efficient way to lose fat in terms of time.

You may find on a Paleo diet that you will lose fat without losing muscle, and without having to rely much on cardio.

Saw a study recently published in NYT that said the main difference between fat people and skinny people is that the skinnies stay physically active. They just move their bodies more. So ride your bike like MuchMoreThanMuscle says.

    ^^ This

Weight training is one of the best. It burns more calories than cardio. Sex is second best.

Eat a quality diet, train with heavy weights, get plenty of sleep and have lots of sex.

If that pic is really you, and you don't have sex, you're obviously doing something wrong.

Go paleo with your diet and aim for 5-6 smaller meals a day, only hard part about paleo is its hard to find a good protein powder that fits the bill.

    How is protein powder paleo?

I am pretty sure that humans did not evolve on foods PROCESSED down to a powder.

    Eat real foods whenever possible

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to? Cardio does more than just burn fat. As the name implies, it's great for your heart.

From what I've been told, cardio exercise is the best and most efficient way to burn fat. You have to do it correctly though. If you work out too intensely, you burn sugar instead of fat, which is less efficient.

Lots of contradicting information in this thread. No wonder noobs are confused. Can't we all just make a be-all end-all article with ALL THIS INFORMATION considered and assembled into one place?

    ONE PLACE

"Diet and exercise" is an over simplification of getting the BEST results. Everyone's body is different. Fuck the internet, I'm seeing a nutritionist and a doctor from now on.
