OMG, it's getting worse. I think it's onto page 2 now of all "Ask a" threads. I fear this will take several weeks to clear up.

its kind of ironic, some of the more innane ones are getting more responses than the ones that could actually lead to interesting conversation

At least it serves as proof that original thought is few and far between around here. Now we know why the forums can be so completely boring at times.

Its not even this, it has completely ruined a really good thread started by Keith titled "ask a black guy anything you want." which lead to some great discussions about his experience as a black man in the world, and could have potentially led me to understand someone different than me. Instead, we are getting drowned out with all these "ask a guy" threads that try to be different, but if you are actually smart you read the same thing "Ask an attention seeking whore with time on their hands" and has turned these threads into a "OMG I want to touch his body!" or "OMG these guys are so sexy" or "OMG Im a dirty whore."

Congrats attention seeking whores, all you have done is proved that you have no creativity and ruined a very good thread. I hope you are all proud of yourselfs.

Note: I know that some of us on here are attention seeking whores (me, waimea, etc) but at least we are creative with it. Get your own act people or GTFO.

I admit that I started the "Ask an Asian guy..." thread with attention-whore motives in mind, but I think it could have had potential for similar discussion - discussion that would be particularly useful on RJ when so many people wonder why "baaaaw baaaaw, white men don't like asians" threads keep coming up.

Like I noted in another flamewar race thread...when a black guy starts a thread about his experiences, at least some discussion happens before it devolves into a shitstorm. When an asian guy starts a thread about his experiences, it's always trolled and dismissed as just "another one of those threads" about being rejected by white men. icon_mad.gif

(Although, I do acknowledge that racial issues for black people has a longer history in the US than for asians.)

When Keith started his thread, it was origional idea and thought, when you did it you jumped on the FOTD bandwagon for attention, much like the ask a jew thread, dont ask me anything thread, ask a forum troll thread (by someone who isnt even a forum troll, wtf guys?), ask a british man thread, ask a white guy thread, ask a...you get the point. Im sorry wild, you are a cool guy, but at no point during anyone's threads today did they think "gee, this will bring about a serious discussion" much like the ask a black guy thread did. Also, if you wanted it to be serious, take it seriously, give some damn good responses or GTFO.

I started the "Ask an Asian guy..." thread on the same day that Keith started his original thread. As far as I can remember, the only other similar thread that started that day was posted by jpBITCHva titled something to the effect of "Ask an old guy..." The Asian thread got no responses and promptly fell off the first page within a few hours until I bumped it this morning after seeing all the "Ask a ...." threads flooding the front page.

This, I will admit, was my problem, as my thread originally read something like this...

wildtype87ok not really. I just wanted to make the weekly RJ Asian thread.

Wow, way to take things too seriously!

And I can't speak for the others, but the thread I started wasn't about titillation or compliments so I resent that accusation!

and some were interesting, thoughtful, humorous, and inspiring. Inspired, we started one, too. It's a compliment to Keith's ask a black guy topic.

Wait...didn't Chainers himself derail the "ask the black guy" thread with racist trolling?
