Gay vs straight

I don't get it. After reading some of the posts on here, why does everything have to be straight or gay. I see posts like why are straight guys this or that, why do straight guys wear boxers under swimsuits (btw I wear boxers under my board shorts)? Why does being straight or gay have to define someone? I was hanging out with my good friend and another friend and this kind of came up. She said that I am straight in everyway except I like guys and our friend he is gay in everyway except he likes girls. I know lots of feminine guys who like girls and lots of masculine dudes who like guys. It seems to me that we are separating ourselves when we want to be more equal. I mean if we want to divide ourselves shouldn't we then say ok "I'm a gay guy who only likes muscle guys so I'm different from the gay guys who like skinny guys" or vice-versa. My friends comment both made me glad that I'm not the stereotype but kinda upset, because it is the reason why back in MT I have to be closeted to keep my life, and that I will be thought of as different even though I'm still me they just would know I'm lookin at a guy instead of a girl. The only difference between me and the "straight" guys is I like dudes and they likes girls other than that I'm like every "straight" dude according to my friend. I just think it should be our personalities which define us not who we like to have sex with, it just keeps furthering the division. I mean isn't it normally bad to talk about religion and politics sometimes because it can cause a division haha. Maybe some of the posts should be why are some guys interested in my broken arm or why do some guys wear boxers under their boardshorts?

Being gay or straight (or somewhere in between) does not define a person, but it is a part of our identity. Society believes it is an important part of our identity (after all in the US some rights are denied based on which group you fall into).

Some people do seem to need to have their sense of self validated by a group. This will lead them to adopt mannerisms (including dress code)that get them accepted by the group. The gay sub-culture is more flexible then it used to be though. When I first came out in the 1980's there were still some older gay men who wore handkerchiefs in their back pockets. The colour and where the handkerchief was situated would indicate what they liked to do in bed.

    Marketing...Its all about MARKETING!
We are only Identified as GAy or straight , into sports, or not, into twinks, or trannies, etc, so that we can be packaged and marketed and sliced and diced for any number of marketing/political tactics....I am who I am, regardless of who is trying to buy or sell my allegiances or count me in some survey, etc. I know this is happening, but it doesn't affect who I am looking at or who I want to be with. Roll with the conscious knowledge that it ALWAYS goes back to MONEY=POWER.....Be straight lookinh/acting, masculine, whatever, just be happy and comfortable with who you are, because in a few years there will be a new and different way of mixing, slicing and dicing the demographic....icon_cool.gif

Yes, some of the distinctions are fluffy and silly. But there IS a difference. In an ideal world, the difference would be appreciated and not lead to inequality but that's why it's called ideal. And, no matter how close we get to that ideal, it does not remove or invalidate the difference.

Start with your post for example. How many straight guys do you think would ever even think to ask this very same question?

. My friends comment both made me glad that I'm not the stereotype but kinda upset,

I know what you mean. My friends used to say that I am just a straight man who likes to have sex with men. And it made me really self conscious. I mean I knew I was acting more straight in high school, but am I still acting now that I am out? Am I just trying so hard not to be stereotype that I am not being true to myself? Do I really want to be more flamboyant? It all destryoed me all of last year.

It wasn't until I saw a psychologist and started Jujitsu that I realized that I like being myself, and myself is being overly aggressive, macho, manly, competitive, and strong. I put too much importance on my sexuality and thinking if I was gay I was supposed to act a certain way. I realized I am happy being me ans being gay isn't a definition of your personality it is who you sleep with. Even though people do stereotype you for it

Don't worry gays wear boxers under there swim shorts and take interest and try and one up each other's sports injuries.

They just call themselves straight acting, you see all gays naturally go commando under board shorts and don't take a gruesome interest in others broken limbs. It's only those who are insecure an in denial about their true sexuality who go out of there way to unnaturally imitate the behavior of straight people.

    ***Assumes David Attenborough voice***
And here we see a bunch of gays in their natural habitat completely devoid of pressure to conform to hetrosexuality. Note the natural curvature of the well defined, gym sculpted buttocks completely devoid of any visible panty linesicon_lol.gif

I've never been a fan of underwear period. I stopped wearing it in Iraq. Its not to "act" or "imitate" straights.
