Yes, I know that many people hate "stereotyping", and with good reason....

But I thought we could have fun with this and discuss the differences in gays/gay culture depending on what area you are from.... and also what you 'notice' about gays from other cities. Can be a good thing or bad thing... Deep or superficial....

For instance, I am from DC and people say that DC has a pretty catty gay culture. I haven't really experienced that, but I am not exactly living in the middle of it all either. I do keep a little distance.

They also say that guys from DC often have a inflated sense of self because of how many people that are working in the government or are doing some kind of law and making loads of money. "What do you do?" is a common to hear among the first questions you are asked when you meet someone. I suppose one could extrapolate about what that means about DC gays/ general DC culture.

Lastly... I will say that I think gays, and people in general from DC are not super friendly at first-- its not like in the midwest where it seems like people are nice and will come up to talk with you without some big motivation. In DC, if someone comes up to you, its common to think, "what does he want?"

lol... I hope I havent painted DC guys as these awful people... I probably have! But.... its ok, there is always new york (if you want rude) icon_lol.gificon_wink.gif

I am in the DC area too. I have observed in DC bars that the guys often look like they still have their 3-piece suits on....kind of stilted.

And the leather crowd kills me! All duded up as these big bad leather dudes and their hair is all perfectly cut....you know that have some professional job all week and they are in their little circles talking about recipes.

For years, I have only gone to the country-western bar in town. There the guys seem much more relaxed, less cruisey, and easier to approach.

What's wrong with recipes? I'm making profiteroles with coffee ice cream and chocolate sauce for the Friends of NRA meeting. The truck stop sucks balls so we don't go there anymore.

Gays in Willcox are.. non-existent. I live in the county. Hiyuk. Possum fritters, anyone?

Back in Vienna, Gays always used to say straight forward whats going on. It was terrible since I was pretty fat, but the truth is what really counts in the end. Gays from there may be sometimes rude and not very romantic, but I still prefer them over the Gays here.

The Gaylife here in Guatemala is well closed and lots of the Gays have built familys, since it was expected from them. Even worse, the Gays here dont seem to have the ability to sex without consequences. I dont know how many Guys I met, that I had to let go since the romance goes into overdrive on the secound date. They just overdo it to fast to soon.

You start by scraping some off the road and go from there.

I live in L.A. I think my city's gays have been stereotyped enough... I'm trying to find L.A. guys that sort of defy the stereotype.

    In a word: closeted.

There is no gay life in small town, rural America. There's a gay bar in the nearest city...boring!

Most gays in Buffalo, NY seem to center their social lives around the damn bars.

WOW...that's a nice way to describe Mi-ami! Key West: Laid back! People are nice and talkative, but whether it's to your face or behind your back, you know it's happening either way! We bicker like family but no tour-ass can get between us, unless we want them to! Hehe It's generally an older crowd with a lot of tourist influx but a very relaxed "Live and Let Live" atmosphere!

unfortunately the majority of the younger gay guys in Scottsdale are pretentious and more worried about buying the lastest espresso machine than forming good friendships. But I have met a few great guys.

Toronto is clicky, bitchy and centred a lot around the bars as well. Very gossipy and everyones dated everyone.

It dosen't get more high school than this...

I'd have to say pretty diverse. The ones who think they are too cool to be here leave, but they always end up coming back.

There seems to be two prevalent "types" here in Dallas:

Typically, I think to myself as they pass:

    A. "You're not Mariah Carey so stop trying"

    or

    B. "You're not straight, so stop trying".icon_rolleyes.gif
