Hi there, im wondering if anyone here has had any experience with Malaria. I contracted it 2 weeks ago and am in recovery now, all going well except energy levels are a bit low still and I am going to put the feet up for another week.
My doctors are giving the usual sound advice, do nothing and drink lots of fluids etc. Has anyone had any experience lately with Malaria and if so how long should i realistically expect to be in rest mode. Is there any food/drink that may speed up my recovery?
    cabin fever kicking in ;-)

I had it in 2005 after a trip to the Amazon, despite taking anti-malarials. It didn't surprise me too much though. Despite covering up and using DEET, I still got so many mosquito bites I looked like a pin cushion.

The worst of it for me lasted a little over two weeks. By week three I was feeling like I was well on the way to getting over it, but I had some lingering symptoms into the fourth or fifth week. The heavy night sweats were the last thing that went away at about week five.

ye, thanks Bowie and Global. Sorry for the delay in getting back.
i recovered well and quickly in the end and was back to normal on my 3rd week. I just had to sit tight for the last month and not do any exercising. i can go back running next week, thankfully.
night sweats are a distant memory ;-)

I've never know anyone who had malaria, a new one for me. I'm having terrible night sweats, too, sleep on towels in bed, but from a different cause. I'd be interested to know the path this takes.
