This theory is a product of the social issues present in SA. They have made substantial gains since the overthrow of aparteid but there is much road to travel. This woman appears to have moved to a 'shanty town' near Capetown to escape discrimination.
'Cosmopolitan' Capetown may be the most progressive part of SA but it still has it's problems. The shanty towns are the direct result of the economic inequality of the blacks. The wider SA community needs to force politics on this issue.
Let's just remember that not so long ago, despite the scourge of AIDS on the SA population, the Minister for Heath refused to acknowledge HIV as a health (rather than social) problem and accordingly denied the country WHO funding to combat the issue. That's a scary thought in a country where over 30% of the population are living with the disease.
We ALL need to stand by the rainbow nation that is SA. It is the only country to be reborn without a major civil war. It is the only nation to stand up and forgive the injustices of the past so as to move to a progressive future. It is a bastion of democracy and all those ideals we hold dear. It is the greatest social experiment of our time. We need to ensure that it succeeds.
