I'm finally ready to admit it. I need advice from my elders. Their wisdom and experience is invaluable and I've never been able to swallow my pride and admit that before now. Okay, here I go.

    *deep breath*

Why do people think Steve Martin is funny?

Some people might, but I've never figured it out either. He couldn't make me titter, tee hee, snort, guffaw, or bring milk up thru my nose he's that awful.

Because the guy I was watching him with was really hot and thought he was funny, so I laughed to make him think I think he's funny so I could get laid.

    It worked. icon_biggrin.gif

OK, I'll bite: it depends on which thing you're watching. His older stuff is in general much, much funnier than the newer, and it's all hit or miss. (Some is unwatchable.)

Father of the Bride, Cheaper By The Dozen: meh.

    L.A. Story, Roxanne: pure gold.

OK, in return, I would like someone to explain to me why Dane Cook is considered funny. icon_smile.gif

He was hilarious in the 70's. It helped to be a little bit stoned.

I haven't read his grotesquely overpriced little books.

I'm talking primarily about his comedy albums. I don't get them. He's just making weird noises!

Different generation and time I'm guessing.

Younger people watch great older movies for example and can't understand why they're so revered. Quite often the films were groundbreaking in their day and filmmakers have since used and reused those special elements so that now, the original movie looks weak by comparison.

I've never thought Steve Martin's comedy was all that funny but I do think he's very witty and enjoy his anecdotes and interviews the most. He's a very smart guy.
