What percentage is p2p and porno? Or is it that social networks (and Grindr) have made hooking up easier, so people are spending less time pirating music to jerk off to, and more time making hot pork sandwiches?

Is that why my FIOS is slower now? Joy.

Haven't had the pleasure yet. (had Uverse once) But, there is a good chance that it is.

There are utilities that get a time report between the router boxes that connect you to your service. "Traceroute" is the typical name for this function.

Another problem is web surfing relies heavily on a "Domain Name Server" machine that converts human-friendly http://www.realjock.com to a machine-friendly IP address of 209.23.124.81

But, you end up accessing other addresses including "assets6.rjstatic.com" or "assets7.rjstatic.com". This lookup process can get bogged down if your ISP is not motivated to invest in fast servers for DNS name resolution.

If you're really having problems, you can modify your IP settings at your desktop to use a premium (for pay) DNS server. Sometimes, that can improve things depending on the infastructure of your ISP.

But, most likely, the problem is people are going crazy with Netflix and torrents.

It's not surprising. Netflix may be losing some customers, but those customers may just be hopping to other streaming services like Hulu.

Was talking to someone at Blockbuster... I'd say the statistic is probably down to like 22% of internet traffic if the trend he told me is accurate.

    Netflix is going down, FAST.

Blockbuster was bought out by Dish and they are on the rise. They're gonna have a huge web presence, and much more selection than Netflix ever had.

What sucks is that Netflix AND Hulu have been severely crippled by the studios. I'm sorry but you let me watch the first 2 episodes on time then the rest of the season is on a 30 day delay? EVEN if I am a Hulu+ member? Yea.. I'll go to some website (probably put locker or Vidx or something) and simply stream the show an hour after it's online >.>. So what if the quality is shit, at least I get my shows.

Hulu had a really good thing going, I don't mind the commercials, most of my favorite shows in one spot, and it even turned me on to tons of good anime, but the studios really screwed them over. If they could get rid of the 7-30 day delays I would resub in a heartbeat.

But, there is the problem of money and the studios know who feeds them.

Your cable and dish provider actually pay a station to rebroadcast their signal...especially if that cable company replaces commercials with their own.

These payments are based on...Nielsen ratings and contracts.

Similar things happen to the local TV stations themselves.

NBC struggles with the loss of popular shows has had a significant impact on local affiliates who aren't able to charge a premium to run a spot for a local car dealer if no one is watching.

I don't own a TV as it distracts me from important things like gym. If the series is really good, it will be out on DVD. I have money. But, I don't have time to waste sitting through all the extra stuff that pays for these programs to be developed.

If it isn't super popular, like people getting hit in the nads on "Wipe Out", I stream that. But, the really good stuff is either put on DVD, Itunes, or I just have to pray someone remembers and franchises "Hidden Hills" so I can watch Doug and Jamie go to the Def Leppard concert again, plastered.

I meant to say "pirating to music to listen to while jerking off," and the point got muddled.

Did you actually do a speed test? You pay FIOS for a guaranteed speed. If you're not getting it, complain.
