.What's the McRib made of, anyway?

"What's the meat made of? Pig innards and plenty of salt. Typically, "restructured meat product" includes pig bits like tripe, heart, and scalded stomach"

" chemicals like ammonium sulfate and polysorbate 80, the most egregious may be azodicarbonamide — "a flour-bleaching agent most commonly used in the manufactur[ing] of foamed plastics like gym mats the and soles of shoes." According to McDonald's own ingredient list, the bun also includes calcium sulfate and ethoxylated mono- and diglycerides, among other chemicals."

    Deliciousness, that's what.

It's funny to me that whenever some novelty fast food item appears the food scolds take to the presses to try and chase me away from it. As if any volume of finger-wagging has ever kept that beach whale with her mullet, her mumu, and her hoveround from rolling up and ordering 10 McRibs.

Polysorbate 80 is actually and amazing compound but if you don't know that already it's not worth going into.

seriously...till this day, no one can pry my fat fingers off a large fountain diet coke, regardless of the number of articles re: its carcinogenic effects, fat-inducing effects, etc

If you take the bun off a McRib and look at the "meat" patty, you will see indentations that are supposed to look rib-like. Of course, these are not actual ribs, because ribs are bones. This "rib" appearance is a stamped-on pattern to make it look more rib-like than just a brown flat oval thing would.
Interestingly, the stamped-on rib pattern is not on the bottom of the "meat" patty, since almost no one would bother to look at the underside of this concoction.

This fascinating McRib® fact is a result of my horrible summer job at McDonald's in high school.

Oh please. The McRib isn't any worse than chicken McNuggets. Those little things are just bits of chicken shaped/held together with edible glue. icon_lol.gif

I doubt many people go into McDonald's wanting a McRib. It sounds and looks gross even without the knowledge that it comes from ground up pig guts. I think if people want to indulge in ribs, they'd go for the real thing.

my favorite McDonalds story was the journalist who did a little experiment. She went out and bought a cheeseburger from her local golden arches. She brought it home, unwrapped it and put it on a freshly-cleaned plate. Then she put the plate on a high shelf in her breakfast room and left it there for...i can't remember how long but long enough for a loaf of storebought bread to become rather grotesque. Anyway, at the end of the trial she took the plate down (i think it was a couple of months) and to her shock, the burger looked exactly as it had the day she'd put it up there (excepting a little dust)...until she picked it up. The whole burger, bun and all, was hard as a rock. When she published her little experiment, McDonalds got furious and tried to shut her down.

If i had the backing I'd do a reverse "Supersize me" documentary, but eat a responsible amount of calories from mcdonalds food only..
Unlike the idiot that did "supersize me" who could have overeaten any type of food and gotten the same results.

It's made of stuff? I thought they just found by the roadside somewhere.

I've never been brave enough to try one. It looks disgusting. It doesn't look like real food. I stay away from fast food anyway. I have a hard enough time keep off the extra weight.

seriously. this is for only 7.4oz of food. I've seen people have two of these in one sitting. That is 52g of fat. so bad.

Yeah. My one and only serious "i don't care how bad it is for me" thing that i consume, luckily is only around part of the year. I lurves me some egg nog, lol. But coming from a neighborhood where i've seen an elephantine 20-something woman steal the last power scooter at the grocery store from an elderly, frail looking 80-something lady, I know what you mean.

People don't understand that sure, its a quick meal...IN A BIND. If i want a quick meal at the very least i have a bag of Tyson chicken in my freezer. People are just lazy these days.

I love the line from "Over The Hedge" when RJ explains about SUVs, the question being how many people ride in one, the answer being "Usually, one." I'd rather stop at Winn Dixie on the way home and pick up a few chicken breasts and grille them on the average afternoon than spend almost the same amount of money at golden arches for something absolutely horrible for me.
