Thought I would post this and see what kind of creative ideas could get from the readers.

I know most people will be home for the Christmas holidays this year with family and loved ones. But for me that will not be the case.

My best friend, (lesbian) lost her 94 year old father this past year, he lived with her and I (gay) lost my best friend and companion, my faithful Golden Retriever of 9 years unexpectantly last month.

Neither of us are looking forward to the holidays and really do not want to stay home. We both do not have any other family and are just not into spending Christmas in our own places. Just to many emotional memories for both of us to deal with this year so we started talking about going somewhere to escape - if that is even possible?

Both of us in our early 50's and both single - which doesn't make things any better.

Can anyone offer a suggestion on where to go? May be the beginning of a new tradition of sorts.

The last thing we want to do is be holed up in a hotel room, alone, and nothing to do because everything will be shut down - so looking for something to distract us and keep are minds off our lost ones. We both live on different ends of the state of NC and want to stay in the US. Probably be easier to drive but flying is not out of the question.

If anyone has been in this same boat before and can offer any ideas or thoughts, on how to deal with this situation, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

South Florida, specifically Hollywood/Hallandale Beach area. 1/2 way between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Lots to do for boys and girls!

Consider a cruise. If not familiar, a good travel agent can give you great ideas consistent with your budget.
