Addicted to Pre-Workout Supplements

So over a year now I have been on some sort of pre-workout whether that's, jack3d, shotgun, explode, or 1MR. I'm at the point now where enough is enough. All the caffeine and the energy I can tell its unhealthy and I feel like I'm damaging my heart from doing it. A good friend of mine was telling me all the harmful effects of it and what she has seen it do to people(she's a nurse) and it freaked me out. I've tried quitting many times before but I get a crappy workout in comparison to the supplemented workout. So what I need to know is what can I do to get off these things and start working out healthy, maybe other stuff that's not harmful? Or do I need to just get off them all together?
    Thanks in advance guys.

I felt like all that stuff was making me sick years ago...so I totally dropped all of it. I'm feeling much better these days and I wonder if the majority of supplements are nothing more than a way to sucker people out of their money.

Ah yes I love my superpump max. This is a slight concern for me too. Especially cuz I workout after 8 hours of sitting at a computer at work, so I feel like I need the extra boost some days.

I think this is an important topic and deserves a...

You sould not take pre-workouts EVERY day. Just like caffine addicts, your body can get use to it and it stops giving you the desired effect. And there are definately some more addictive and dangerous than others.

I do Buzzerk 3 times a week for the workouts I know I am gonna be going for a couple hours. For my easy days I don't take anything. I like Buzzerk, I don't feel jittery like I do from jack3d, shotgun, explode, or 1MR. And you can do half a scoop of Buzzerk with the same amount of water to make it not as potent. Also after the workout and I eat a good meal the effects of Buzzerk go away completely and I am able to relax and go to bed without laying in bed wide awake.

I got 3/4 of a can of Jack3D sitting largely untouched on top of my fridge, lol.

Most noteable waste of $35 USD on supplements for me this year.

Though if I know I have a workout day in conjunction with a long drive or (in anticipation of a) all night session with someone, I might dip into it.

The killer for me is less about the jitters than it is the abso-fucking-lutely atrocious sucralose taste overload.

Which I'm probably over exaggerating, but I've been very methodical in avoiding sweets of all kinds if possible.

I take Jet Fuel and I don't even notice if it helps or not. I certainly don't get the jitters like I did on Jack3d. At this point I don't know if it's effective though. So might be a bit less intense for those people who don't like the crazy cracked-up feeling.

at 2 scoops of jack3d, I felt like I wanted to run through a brick wall with my face and then make orange juice with my bare hands.. I'm certainly not a caffeine-pussy though. I take my coffee black and sugar free which doesnt do anything crazy to me, but Jack3d for whatever reason, even just 2 scoops, made me want to commit felony.

I have never been a fan of that stuff. I tried Vitargo for a while but I didn't notice a palpable difference. I am not training as heavy now since my injury so I suffice with a coffee, or a square of good dark chocolate, a handful of almonds and a green apple.

Why don't you switch to something that has more natural ingredients and no caffeine?

I've taken a simple BCAA supplement before working out and it gives you a little boost. I'm a much bigger fan of post-workout recovery shakes/food. That seems like a better place to focus your energy.

Because I need the boost. After working all day it was all I could do to get through a work out and not let my mind wonder to work shit. Jack3d keeps me focused while I am there and I am able to get through my routine. I would be open to trying anything its just this stuff seems to work and its cheap.

Oh this is me on jacked too. The first time I didn't read the label and the damn scooper was so tiny. I put five scoops in my water bottle. Wow ZOOM!! I also tried No Explode....which made me explode in the bathroom 20 minutes after taking it every time.

Yeah but the OP seems to be having trouble with too much boost. If it works for you, go right ahead. For me, the BCAAs give me a little boost though that isn't why I took them.

Cold turkey. Energy drinks are horrible for you. Diabetes anyone? Clean up your diet and you won't need energy drinks. Go for Yerba Matte tea. It gives you a nice, clear-minded boost without the caffeine edginess or post-sugar crash you get from energy drinks.

I'm trying to slow down on it and not use it every time. With jack3d(which I'm currently on) I would take one scoop about a year ago after I went to 3 scoops because my body keeps growing a tolerance for it I switched and tried everything. 1MR made me not able to sleep but worked awesome and the other ones were just meh. I'm back on jack3d and I'm on 4 scoops and I'm just trying to slow down I literally lift 20% more on it and twice as long. About a week ago I only used 2 scoops and I didn't feel anything so I went to 3, still nothing so I went to 4. I think I'm just going to stop cold turkey. Also I always have a postworkout shake, then a meal a hour later.

Energy lack for workout after work might just be post lunch carb coma.

The only supplement I've ever taken is a daily multi-vitamin tablet, and I'm not sure that there is a good reason to take that. The gym where I work out has all sorts of supplements available, and periodically a salesman for supplements sets up a table with all sorts of things on it. I've never even bothered to look at all the stuff.

Im also addicted to JACK 3D. I cannot workout with it. I just bought 2 cans at Vitamin Shoppe $32 each. If I don't take it I feel sluggish. If I drink coffee is alright workout.

After doing a google search on JACK 3D and finding its website, I'd be afraid of it. Any "supplement" that would do all that JACK 3D claims to do would probably be dangerous. It sounds as though it probably contains high dosages of stimulant drugs in which case it's understandable that it could be addictive. That would be true of any supplement that produces equivalent effects.

According to a number of articles, caffein is addictive, at least for some people. People who drink excessive amounts of coffee experience unpleasant side effects when they stop, but most are able to get off of it and be symptom free after a few days. Assuming that JACK 3D is more stimulating than coffee, it is understandable that getting off of it could be more difficult.

Just caffeine but it sucks being used to it, then not having it.
