How to deal with minor annoyances such as thread titles in all CAPS

Consider why this is done even with topics that would not normally require all caps. First, if the poster does not consider himself the sharpest knife in the drawer, he doesn't feel his words by themselves have power, so he must emphasize them. Second, if he has other attributes that might be considered modest, he might feel the need to be "bigger" and it manifests itself in his writing. All amounts to low self-esteem.

Any way to deal with this annoyance? Obviously the deep-seated problems can't be addressed in a forum, but we can use the same techniques used to train children and animals. Very simple - when they are acting up for attention, don't reinforce their bad behavior by giving them attention. Ignore them, and they eventually decide to give up the specific behavior. On RJ, the treatment is simple. Don't post to a thread with titles in all CAPS. Even if it does not correct the bad behavior, at least the thread will sink quicker leaving the more intelligent threads visible to the adults.

Fussing over whether something is in caps or not is, well, a little petty I think.

Bad behaviour? It's just upper case on the keypad.

That was in response to numerous others from another member. Of all the cap title threads of late, was it just a coincidence that you happened to choose one from SB, especially when the great majority of his are upper/lower case? I would never have suspected. icon_lol.gif

SoCal, can't you find a better topic to fret over ? Like how embarassing the Republican sherade of candidates are ? Hell !! They need a lot of help drawing attention to themselves, so why don't you suggest that they could get more attention by using all caps in their advertising. It might be just the boost their TBagger candidacies need. LOL

Have you seriously skipped your Paroxetine again? And stop complaining about those side effects again. You do that repeatedly. The staff at the VA is trying their best to help you, but you continually call them the enemy. Now take it before making another silly post.

Nope, but perhaps it will make everyone else realize that posting your topic titles in ALL CAPS is a breach of etiquette and should not be allowed - even if it is only done by a single individual.

Love what passes for "logic" to a rightwinger, lol. I guess by that reasoning, if a dog shits on your lawn you're gonna follow him home and drop a dookie on his?? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

    Pics please!! Hahaha.

I did that because, Socal, singling out a member and making a disparaging topic about him is tacky, right? (a lot worse, I suspect, than topic titling in caps)

I question "étiquette" in typing....really. That amounts to "shouting" - really?Who's the intertubes police anyway?

Besides, bigger letters are easier for some to read. (Me included some days)

Don't you do the same against SB and fairly regularly? Also, tacky is a matter of opinion. The member in question continually generates baiting threads, lowering the level of discourse, and does it in a style, the caps, that many of us find obnoxious. It also crowds out visually the other threads. Others have asked him very politely to reconsider this practice, but he has not responded from what I have seen. From what I can tell, he has already earned the disrespect of many, and deserves whatever scorn comes his way. I would not criticize someone based on things they cannot change, but this is behavior he obviously has control over.

The ALL CAPS don't bother me nearly as much as ridiculously long thread titles. They make the thread starter look like an idiot that can't put a thought into a concise sentence as a thread title. It's almost always the same people who do this.

And there are two others here doing exactly the same thing but I haven't seen YOU start any threads taking them to task!

Seems awfully one sided to me.

    Thank you.

    Edited to add:

You need to stop treating RealJock like its some battleground. If you want to ignore the person, that's your decision. And if the guys who once followed you like sheep in your temporary exodus from RealJock decide to follow suit, then that's up to them.

The rest of us are capable of making judgments and decisions of our own. So thanks again for your pearls of wisdom, but for someone who advocates smaller government, you sure do attempt to exert some control through your "guidance" of what RealJock should be.

SB, In reference to your above post, polls are beside the point, I guess it would be easier to understand my point by saying that, Just like this forum topic, Republicans are MAJORING IN MINORS !!!

Who cares about all the religious social crap that seems to be the basis for these candidates in what they spew out everytime they have a supposed debate or are quoted. They appear to the onlooker as so far right that even Reagan wouldn't recognise them as reasonable republicans. Then take a look at what the Congress has accomplished, not a noticeable improvement at all on the jobs front, most of their time is spent on their far right initiatives.

First of all, my opinions and recommendations to others were simply that. Everyone does what they choose, the boundaries of RJ defined by the RJ admin.

Second, no one followed me like sheep to a temporary exodus. You have no clue as to how it came about, who suggested what, and what the discussion points were.

Third, my "pearls of wisdom" are not directed to you or your ilk.

I can think of two in the entire history of our time here. One was over his constantly deleting topics when he didn't like the replies (you could do that back then).

It was more than once, and you promptly restarted them.

Not surprisingly, a short time later admin removed the ability to delete topics at will once more than one or two posts were in them.
