I'm heading to Amsterdam for a week and I need some suggestions of things to do while I am there. Has anyone visited that has a place that they think is an absolute must? I'm pretty sure that the nightlife will not be boring and there will be plenty of clubs, bars, and other places to visit but what about during the day?

Try to get to Anne Frank house first thing in the morning. I tried during the summer and the line was clear around the block at 10am. Should be less crowded now. Take a train ride to some smaller cities for the cheese markets and flower markets. etc. You can pretty much walk all of central Amsterdam in 2 days anyway. Amsterdam is usually gay guys most favorite city. There is a sex club / bar called Church that is so cool if you are into that. Drinks and nudity all in a bar. opens at night. Probably weekends best. Try an Indonesian Rijsttafel meal in Amsterdam. Sort of a cross between Indian and Thai. You'll get a unique delicious meal there. Lots of beer halls open in the afternoon. People people watch while drinking beer.

There is tons to do in Amsterdam beside revel in the nightlife, which really is terrific.

I loved the Van Gogh Museum and the RijksMuseum (home of many famous Dutch Renaissance painters).

A tour of the canals by boat is excellent and the Heinekin Factory tour is fun especially if you like beer.

Otherwise renting a bike and riding around is great and there is much to discover.
