So I got this e-mail from DList today. I totally forgot I used to have a profile on this site like 5 years ago. It sucked ass. Basically you didn't stand a chance if you were over 25 and not shirtless in one of your pics. It deserves to go down. Although way to go for promoting Manhunt
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DList will be closing our big gay doors on December 31, 2011.
We've had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone these past years, but all good things must come to an end.
Some of you may be thrilled we're leaving (jerks!) and others may be sad (we're sorry!), but we'd like to answer some of your questions.
Why are you going away?
DList started back in 2006, when the world of social networking was still in its infancy. Facebook was still exclusively for college students and had limited privacy options. Myspace was booming but if you didn’t want to be totally out to everyone you were out of luck. There were very limited options for gay guys to be themselves online---places where you could freely discuss your late night trysts, random crushes, and anything else about your life as a gay man, from the mundane to the most fascinating.
Fast forward to the end of 2011. Facebook has more than 800 million users, including your mom, your boss, some childhood friends, and just about everyone else you encounter. They’ve even added somewhat decent privacy filters so that you can be your best and worst self to different crowds of people in your life. While MySpace is practically dead, new social networking experiences like Twitter and Tumblr have entered the game and flourished. And, well, there just isn’t as much of a need anymore for DList. Two other large, exclusively gay social sites have closed their doors over the past year too, and we don’t think it’s a coincidence. Without as much interest or need, we just can’t keep the community going as a vital, vibrant, sexy and fun place to express yourself. And no one wants to be a bore.
So here comes the difficult part: The time has come where we have to shut the lights off at DList headquarters. Don't panic! We'll provide you with a sufficient amount of time to trade contact information and say your goodbyes to one another. But this is still the end of an era.
What happens next?
DList will continue to function like normal until the new year. After that point, our servers will cease to operate.
What about personal information?
We will only use your data to provide updates about the current state of affairs regarding DList. Once our servers go down, we will not retain any information beyond your email address (in case we decide to embark on another fabulous adventure). Rest assured we will not share your data with anyone; even if they get us drunk in a fancy bar.
I still want to meet guys! What do I do now?
We think you should join Manhunt! It's our partner site and there are millions of hot guys on it.
We'd like to thank you for making these last five years so great. Who knows? Maybe we'll see you on our next big project...
Signing off,
— Todd, Mike, Tim & your DList team
