So, I'm new to iPhone all together. I have wanted one since their inception, but being with Sprint I was not able to get one! Three days ago I FINALLY got mine..

Searching the app store is overwhelming if you're just browsing.. So many apps.. So, what are some of your favorites? Anything you think I should definitely have? Thanks in advance for the tips!

    games: cut the rope

apps: flashlight. (try to find one that won't spam you with advertisements.)

I use Inrix traffic along with Verizon Navigator (OP is on Sprint).

There are apps for airplane info including one that will give you a guestimate of what lonely little hick town you're flying over that I covet for my next cross-country flight.

The choices are overwhelming but I mostly use: Netflix, Cyclist Pro, Google, Flashlight, Medscape, Nike+, Ben Greenfield Fitness and Grindr icon_wink.gif Not necessarily in that order.

Congrats on the new phone. Lets see how long before Apple screws you and makes it run like shit. I bought my iPhone new with a contract, and it should have been great for a good while, but then apple released iOS 4 which made the first two generations of iPhones run horrible. They freeze up, crash, the whole operating system just crashes. They are so slow it's painful. Thanks apple. Jackass board of directors and planned obsolescense.

Yeah, that one there soured me a bit on apple, even though I have two mac tower computers and tons of software. But I don't worship at the feet of a corporation regardless. That said, Bill Gates and Microsoft are not anything I get happy about.

But, as far as apps go. I love one that I use called HoursTracker pro. I can keep track of hours I work on different projects for different clients, then back it up and also sent the hours to myself or client. It's a time card, essentially. Great app. Super awesome and they have kept it up and it functions well, unlike many apps.

    So, a list:

    HoursTracker Pro
Grindr (which has crashed and won't launch now going on 2 months)
    Maps
CraigsPro+ (Craigslist App works best of all I tried initially over a year ago)
Text Free (I don't have free texting otherwise)
Gas Buddy (locates and gives prices to gasoline)
Yelp (if in Northern Cali where everyone is listed in it.)
Alex Jones Radio Show (best guests to be found anywhere on talk radio.)

Pandora is probably the app I use most. I can listen all day for free with WiFi.

I use many of those already listed.

    I also swear by...

Audiobook and Podcast Player -- great for skipping backward and forward in various increments

MapQuest -- gps with spoken turn by turn directions

ScannerPro -- take pics of documents, straighten them and turn them into PDFs

Cardstar -- for inputting all of those store discount cards

    HT Recorder -- audio recorder

Evernote -- for clipping and accessing info (very useful on the desktop too) you can search your notes and any text in any photos you take. Amazing service.

Thanks a lot for that suggestion... I've been looking for a time tracker online, and didn't think to look in the App Store. Just bought HoursTracker based on your recommendation. Perfect for what I need.

About Netflix. I was thinking about downloading that earlier but thought I should look into it more first. If you have a subscription already, do you not have to pay extra? And can stream unlimited right on your phone? If so, I'm so down.

If you have a subscription for streaming service, you're golden... no additional fees.

It uses the same subscription as your regular Netflix streaming account. You don't have to pay extra, and the app is free. You would probably want to use it over WiFi instead of using your data minutes over 3G. I haven't used it on my iPhone yet, but I've used Netflix on my iPad, and the service is good.

What do you have now? I have an iPhone, but the most recent update has meant that it no longer words properly with the speaker i got for it and I´m so angry that I am very seriously looking into different options for next time.

My last speaker worked for 5 years. This forced updating is a deal breaker for me.

Sweet. I'll have to get Netflix now. I'm sure it will make me use wifi. It does for practically anything fun, even though I have unlisted data. It seems like I can't FaceTime or download large apps and videos from iTunes or use certain apps unless I am on wifi. I wonder if jail breaking my phone would allow me to get around that? It seems like since I have unlimited data it shouldn't matter what I use.

I have a BlackBerry (work) and Android phone (personal). I still have a Touch but I don't upgrade the OS anymore. It was the iOS upgrading that killed my first iPad and one of the iPhones. Both iPhones went to my partner, the iPad ... well, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I'm selling it to the highest bidding sucker on eBay.

I ordered a Kindle Fire. An analyst at my firm landed a review unit, so I was able to spend time with the product. It's absolutely perfect for my needs. It's beautiful, light, compact with great screen quality and the type of apps that I need. Mine should arrive early next week. I'll let you know what I think after spending a few days with it.

AirVideo is one worth mentioning. Enables you to watch that is on your Mac from your iPhone or iPod and push it to an apple tv. I use this app all the timers my iMac is in the office.

Meebo is good if you use more than one messenger service. It's free and has push notifications.

I just upgraded from the 3GS. Enjoy your new iPhone euphoria!!
