venue35 saidI want to buy the Red Epic Camera but I can't afford one right now...one day.
I wonder if you can find something cheper but just as good. I know you can make a film with a really good camera and interchangeable lenses. People are already doing it. Maybe big film cameras will soon become obsolete because of the size.
The camera body itself would only run you like $14,000. But you need a LOT of peripherals with that bad boy... A DECENT versatile rig would run you $50,000 or so. Lenses, lenses, lenses.... Hard drives, Batteries, a Cage, Tripods, cooling system, noise canceling system.... On set data wrangling... the list goes on. And this is the camera rigging alone... the 50k wont cover any of the complicated Jibs, Dollies, sound gear etc etc etc etc....
Yes, it is MUCH more powerful than the DSLRs or whatever you are trying to explain here.
But, on the same token, yes you will get similar resolution and overall quality with something much cheaper. The power is in the live data wrangling and the codecs here. This camera has an amazing processor... The versatility with the footage in post production is INSANE. There's a reason big studios don't use the cheap cameras for features such as this one.
