So apparently I am seething a bit when I realise all of my spelling usage is correct but my mac thinks my British spelling is absolutely wrong with each program having its variations.. is there any way to universally tell it to refer to a proper British Dictionary over an American one and for all programs? I have tried to meddle with the settings panel with no luck.

For example, I prefer to use 'colour' over 'color'.

If you're a good speller, just turn it off and type it your way.

If you go into system prefs > Language & Text > Then you add "British English" to the list of languages and drag that to the top of the list, it should do what you're looking for. icon_smile.gif Is that the panel you were referring to?

Yeah, you need your Mac set to United Kingdom for formats, I believe, under System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats, and the Region as UK.

Also in Language & Text, click on Text in the bar, and then make Spelling to be British English.

I unclick Correct Spelling Automatically because it often gets it wrong, spelling some other word I didn't want.

I change the language in individual programs, but flip between Canadian English and other languages, so it wouldn't work for me to have one setting to override everything on the computer. Looked in System Preferences and I don't see anything that distinguishes between types of English. Changing your region in System Preferences > International > Formats might do something...

Does it ever say, "I like it, a lote?" icon_smile.gif
