New York to recognize gay marriages
Gov. David Paterson of New York has told state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages performed in states and countries where they are legal .A memo instructs state agencies to revise policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states and countries

Well that is another big state that is entering the 21st century in terms of social policy. Now if we could get some of the southern states like Florida and Texas to change things would really be looking up.

I have found that there is a social component to bigotry. Once one stops, others feel free to, too. It just takes the first ones to get the dominoes falling.

I agree, that and time. Hate to say it but as older generations pass on and are replaced by newer ones, social attitudes change. Not always for the better (I admire my parent's and grandparent's views on responsibility, volunteer work, hard work and ethics), but when it comes to gay rights there is a definite improvement.

It's a step in the right direction but the battle is far from over.

It is one of the few good moves that the State of New York has recently made. Now if they would only legalize gay marriage in this state and cut the damn high taxes and get rid of the greedy, corrupt public employee unions than New York will definately be on the right track.
