I'm trying to build a database of gyms around the world and am wondering if anyone can suggest any fantastic gyms that I can add to the site.

Actualy really keen to get hold of the best body building gyms in London - or perhaps I alrady have them? http://www.gymvisit.com/findagym.htm?loc=europe/united_kingdom/london
It's a hobby site so no advertising and no commerce. Let me know what you think about the site....

Your link points to this thread, not your website.

here is the link correct for those who would rather click, instead of copy/paste.

I'm a clicker, not a paster.

Clicking the link causes my browser to wait and wait and wait and wait. Who's hosting this site? Complain to them about their response time.

... alrighty ... back to the original question

The one gym I went to whilst in London, was Virgin active. Possibly a bit on the expensive side (I didn't care since I could expense it) but the place was immaculate. Clean, the right amount of lighting, personnel who actually liked their jobs, many of the latest equipment ... it was a major downer to go back to 24 hour fitness when I got back from my trip. The specific one I joined was the one in Ealing (off of Ealing Broadway).

Looks like a useful, informative site. Great.

YMCA in central London is being re-fitted at the moment.

Soho Gym at 12 Macklin and the Jubilee Hall Club both at Covent Garden are decent.

Soho is something like 10GBP/day with cheaper weekly rates.

Can't remember how much Jubilee is.

Used to go to Soho gyms Camden, then Jubilee Hall. If I recall, I was paying around GBP90+ for a 3 month membership. But that was back in 2003/2004.

This is driving me crazy actually, and I am glad to find this thread. As a new Londoner I am not finding anything suitable around me in Belgravia / Pimlico (I am in Eaton Sq.).

Most everyone recommends gyms in the West End which is a lot of trouble coming and going.

I would love to go to the gay gym www.parisgym.co.uk but that is all the way in Vauxhall.

Grateful for any ideas.

Terry, have you tried the Queen Mary's in Victoria? Very popular gym and sports centre.

Sorry, it's actually Queen Mother Sports Centre at the back of Victoria Station (Tel: 0207 630 5522)

The Queen Mother... not somebody you would immediately associate with a gym.

From personal experience the Virgin Active on the Strand (was Holmes Place) has very well maintained equipment and is nice. The new Diesel Gym in Limehouse is probably the best in the area for Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai though.

The Queen Mother is proably the best but it is the standard Courtney crap gym. Try La Fitness in the mall near Victoria or why not make the trip to Paris gym. It really is one of the best gyms in London for equiptment, the only problem is the weird pricing and the whole gay culture thingie. There are also two fitness firsts near Victoria but they are both small. Virgin active has to be the worst gyms in the world-all 'bout style over substance just like that Maggie lover faker Richard Branson.

I used to be a member at Esporta, another gym chain similar to Virgin Active. Many locations have pools and they're UK-wide. The ones in Chiswick Park, Wandsworth, and Angel are all really good.

Hey John B
Paris Gym..the only gay gym in London and when I was there (Dec 2004) it really catered to those visiting or vacationers with daily/weekly passes.
