    Looks like a huge outcry by the public motivated some action by local officials. Still an outrage that the school treated it as such a minor incident.

    Because it diminishes the crime

    It IS assault and there need to be swift and causative action taken when these things happen in schools

    Because somehow being in school magically makes it less serious since school is viewed as it's own little society with it's own rules and system of law. The example I always use is two of-age teenagers, same age same social demographic. One in in HS the other works at a gas station. The HS kid beads up a kid at school and gets suspended or detention. The gas station kid beats up a similar kid on the way home one night. He gets charged with assault.

    That's what he was charged with. Maybe people will start connecting the dots.
