If anything? I swear i get hassled and harassed more than anyone i know. I get called a faggot usually a few times a month, i've had people try to follow me home, had psychos try and run me off the road or just follow me and yell at me at red lights. I'm aware that me driving a Miata is a small part of this (f*cking uneducated degenerates) but its something that's always been a problem since i was a kid. I figure living in the South doesn't help my case either. My mom wasn't much help when i told her about today's escapade. When i told her the dude was calling me a faggot because i was in the Mazda she just said "well it was your decision to buy it." I'm not looking for a pity party, just some helpful insight into the human psyche.

Wow how strange. Sorry that is happening to you. I can't think of anything you would be doing wrong necessarily. I've been called a fag like once or twice my whole life, once from a group of gangsters when in the city and another time by some hick kids as they drove by me. Maybe it's the particular area you are in? I've traveled and stayed in the south many times and never had an issue with anyone either. And I'm not the most masculine gay guy either.

It's where you live. Honestly. Their small mindedness is gross. I'm sorry for you.

What you are doing, is letting it bother you.

What others say or think about you is none of your business.

Own it and know it, don't let what other small minded people upset you and don't allow them to occupy space in your head.
As far as your mom goes, that was a shitty thing to say. I had a great relationship with my mom.. I would of said something to her like, So it's my fault that people are harrassing me? Thanks mom for your love, understanding and support...

Chin up things will be okay.

Let's avoid this one, haha. Next time someone makes fun of you in your car, just express how driving it signifies a large penis. If they are in a Ford F1000 or thereabouts, you can tell them they are overcompensating.

Piss in a bottle - keep it handy in your car. When they pull up to call you something wing the bottle into their window... after you open it. icon_razz.gif

Honestly - not sure what to tell you. I had two guys trail me and cut me off (in their car) after I was leaving a gay bar in CT. It was really creepy. They wanted me to get out of my car. Oh yeah... I'm not THAT stupid. It shook me up... but all I kept thinking was: I just should have backed the fuck up and rammed the fuck out of their car. That would have been the last time they'd have done that.

I suggest you get something mean lookin' and used to drive around so you don't have to worry about collision. Then do what I SHOULD have done that night. Fuckers.

Nawlins isn't that homophobic as the South goes, so I think you're just having a run of terrible luck. I'm so sorry. I know what it feels like and it's no fun.

The only thing you can really do is to stand up for yourself when it's safe to do so, and to know that they're the narrow-minded bigots who will have miserable little existences while you go on to have a fabulous life.

miatas are cool. they remind me of photon torpedoes, and photon torpedoes are bad-ass (not as cool as quantum torpedoes, but i'm splitting hairs here).

yes, i realize that this post does nothing to help you, and for that, i apologize.

but miatas are still cool, and it beats the hell out of the p.o.s. honda crv that i drive, replete with rainbow stickers. i don't get harassed though. then again, i doubt i would notice it if i were harassed ( i would probably interpret it as 'faulty humor from a weaker mind'). apparently, i have a demeanor where people just don't fuck with me and i tend to intimidate those that would. i really don't know why. i'm only 5'3". it must be the yoda in me, (of course it prolly helps that i'm built like a brick shithouse and can actually fight, but fortunately i've only had to do that once and i never ever want to do that again.)

I was thinking a squirt bottle of spent motor oil. Get it on the windshield and they're done. I like my Mazda I just hate the gay stereotype that comes with it. I've had people try and get me out the car several times. One guy had his wife in the car and spat on me a few times. I felt sorry for her. I'm pretty good at ignoring guys that are all mouth but when they're physically menacing me with a Toyota tundra I have a problem with that. That's what todays ruckud was, a middle-aged guy who chased me across metairie and tried forcing me off the road a few times (this is in the city mind you) and yelling at me everytime he got next to me. I've always got the response "what were you doing" my whole life. It's like nobody ever wants to think it could be someone else's fault. Even my aunt, who is my "surrogate" mom told me that moving to another city wouldn't fix the problem.

Dude.....when I read your post, I was thinking you must live in Texas or Mississippi or some hell hole like that, but you live in NEW ORLEANS??? I've lived in the same city as you for 19 years and something just ain't adding up with your story! This is one of the most liberal cities in the world, where there are drag queens hanging out in the straight bars, so I just can't buy that you're getting treated like that. My guess is that you actually live in Metairie or Chalmette, but not New Orleans. So what gives?

    dragpolice.jpg

This drag queen directs traffic in broad daylight on a daily basis and gets nothing but honks and waves. And no, she is not with the police department. They just let her do her thing. And you expect me to believe people are chasing you down and screaming "faggot?" icon_confused.gif

I know her, lol. Sorta. The chase started in new Orleans at UNO and elysian fields and made its way to metairie. I get fucked with on bourbon street sometimes if I cross it too close to canal.

The Miata is pretty gay, dude.

Anyway, you don't need insight into the human psyche. You need to mind your own business. Let people say what they want.

"Other people's opinions of me are none of my business."

    Get on with your life.

I love three different people on and offline have all suggested I get a gun. Did you know that you can charged in federal court for producing a gun on a roadway? Never Mind "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind." And to the idiot who said the miata is gay, if you're not kidding then you're a moron. Do some research into the mechanicals that lurk under that "cute" bodywork. And check the Guinness book of world records for what the most-raced (professionally) car is. An to the people who say I shouldn't care what people think, fuck you. You don't know half the shit I went through and still go through every day so to he'll with your uninformed and knee-jerk opinions.

I understand completely, and honestly...it's why I left Tennessee. However, seeing that this is not an option for you, all I can say is you have to find a way to deal with it so that it doesn't wear you down, day after day. E-mail me if you want to chat. icon_wink.gif

I forget where I read it. I just know that the biggest problem with concealed carry is judging when it is appropriate to produce the piece.

I never thought of it but yeah, they do sort of look like torpedo casings. I've learned to suppress my anger instincts because inherited my temper from dad and he used to chuck furniture at me. It scares me so I struggle to keep it in check.
