My gaydar is fairly accurate most of the time. It's all in the eyes..........a straight guy just doesn't look at you the way a gay guy does. I can spot a gay guy easily in most cases........he'll be the one checking me out and maybe doing a double take - in his cool, sly way. Or - he may just do a stare, with a little blushing, a smile, a nod, but his look - right into my eyes gives him away. A straight guy just ignores me - or gives me a cursory glance.

My gaydar is very accurate, even worked before I knew I was gay myself. When my gay mentor first explained the term to me I was astonished: "But what's special about that? I've always been able to do it! Can't everyone else? It's obvious to me who's gay."

"DUH! That's because you've always been gay all your life, even when you didn't know or accept it. And no, most people don't have gaydar, even many gays themselves."

To me, if I have to analyze it, cause it's really more an unconscious, instinctive sense, I'd identify a lot of individual things. Stuff that individually may not be conclusive, but taken in total just tell me. So I'd list gay:

    - voice
    - vocabulary
    - gestures
    - face, including look in eyes and a revealing stare
    - posture & movements
    - topics discussed
    - clothing & accessories
    - companions
    - and many more

No, many gay men don't have them all, and some have none at all. But enough gays do to alert my gaydar on a fairly reliable basis.

Interesting cartoon, but at first I couldn't figure out the meaning, because all I really saw were the muscular guys in back. Three shirtless guys on the beach with self-conscious blond hairstyles all huddled together? I thought maybe they were all in the same group. And then that guy in the blue shorts with the cute ass in the background? The only straight-looking one is the guy seated on the towel asking the question.

    I don't have one.

    I'm a scientific anomaly.

I most likely lack gaydar. I am nearly always surprised when somebody comes out. I have had friends tell me that it is 'obvious'... Seriously the only ones I suspect of being gay have to be flaming obvious. Then even sometimes still I don't 'get' it.

But that may have much more to do with how I see the world in a sexual context.

    For instance this image:

    060.jpg

I see the dolphins first, then I see the other with a little squinting.

    And this image:

I took someone else pointing out the fact that they are not really dancers....

I most likely do not view people in context of sexuality, thus I fail to see 'gay' or 'straight'.

This may explain why I have only had 8 sexual partners in 45 years of life too.... but that is a different story.

Mine is pretty damn good. It really started to kick in when I reached high school. Can't begin to tell you how often my gaydar went off on questionable and curious guys. I've since learned that many of the guys I suspected from high school are in fact gay now!

I can only think of a handful of misses and other guys who were too ambiguous. They still leave me wondering. I remain convinced that a few of them are at least bi or curious.

My gaydar doesn't work on lesbians at all. I can only pick out the very obvious butch lesbians. However, I can't tell at all with lesbians are who are super girly or are tomboys. I know more straight tomboys than gay.

I instantly saw the human shapes. Maybe it's because I'm in a sexual state of mind.

Actually, I think RJ is strongly distorting any sort of gaydar that I may have had. It's conditioning me to think that every smoking hot guy I see must be gay.

I like observing and guessing people's personalities. Mostly i get it right for the gay case.

Mine's defective. My friend seems to be very good at picking them out and it always stumps me how he does it. It's also not the kind of thing you can really go around testing its accuracy. icon_confused.gif
