Let's just say I'm not eating sushi for a while.

I think that's the appeal of that dish. It's still alive and will be wiggling around when you eat it.
I'm more concerned about the chili sauce that was poured on top of the live squid. Since the squid is moving around, it could splatter chili sauce in your eye. That would be much worse than having to chase the squid around the dinner table.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidDang, why can't they simply put the poor thing out of its misery? It's just just suffering a lingering death. That's very uncool.

It was already dead when they poured the sauce over it, but it hadn't been for very long. The tentacle cells still had functional sodium channels, so the salty soy sauce provided enough ions to stimulate an autonomous muscle response.

Uhm, I'd make sure that thing is thoroughly dead before I serve it.
But it'll make a good Asian Halloween dish. icon_lol.gif!

Dead or not, it's STILL terrifying and I would scream like a 5 year old girl if that happened to me.

Also, it's not kosher so I wouldn't eat it.
