    Anduru,

11/11 is Armistice Day- the acknowledgement of the end of World War I. The fighting officially ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of year 1918. It is Veterans' Day in the United States- one of two civic days honoring members of the armed services.

The picture is of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC- a very long, controversial, and costly war in terms of human life. There are two black walls 75m longs and 3m high. Etched in them are the names of the missing and dead soldiers of that War. Although simply designed, visiting the walls is an emotionally evocative experience.

I was rolling my eyes at the title of the thread.

I wouldn't roll my eyes at World War 1 or World War 2 because they had legitimate reasons for fighting. I'm rolling my eyes at the dog-tags statement because people who are fighting in the middle east now are fighting for nothing.

I completely agree. I walked by it on my recent trip to DC and the sheer number of names on the wall, representing lives that were lost, and the countless of their loves ones that were affected was definitely moving. I didn't stop and look at names cause I couldn't.

There was a lot going on NYC today to honor the Vets, it was actually nice to show them how appreciate we are of them, I think people forget that without them, this country really wouldn't exist.

And as a sidenote, heroes shouldn't wear capes, they get sucked into airplane engines.

As is said, the winners rewrite the history. Nobody wins a war.

No matter the politics of the legitimacy of wars, a life given for someone else is always worth remembering and celebrating.

Then they dieing for nothing in your eyes? We seem to have different outlooks, my opinion is that those whom wear dogtags in harms way our truly my hero's to me. Even if they're not in harms way but serve in servitude are my hero's. It's no big deal that you fault my tittle as you have every right to your opinion I stick by my tittle to this thread because it's my opinion which I have the right to express as any free thinking person has. However much I disagree with you though...

Yes. You do realize that if Americans weren't so self-righteous the world wouldn't hate them so much, right?

And you do know that if it weren't for America being so "self-righteous" that the world wouldn't love them (us) so much right?

Opinions of America were low durning a few years of being governed by (in my humble opinion) an incompetent president. This shouldn't reflect the will or opinions of the 265 other American citizens, most of whom did not vote for Bush.

For all it's flaws, you do realize America is still one of the most prosperous, well-managed and most desired countries to live in right?

LOL OM G WHO THE FUCK LOVES YOU?

Poor countries who are led to believe that the American dream is not a myth want to move to your country.

Wealthy countries full of people who don't believe things such as banning homosexuals because they "eat da poo poo" are the countries that love Canada and want to immigrate here.

Probably true, but it seems your intent is to be more mean spirited than factual.

EDIT: Considering 60%+ of people on Facebook are convinced without a doubt that 1+1+11+1x0= 0, I'd say most Americans are in fact pretty stupid.

No you fat fuck, a lot of you people (fat Canadians) and other wealthy countries have plenty of ex-pats living in the US.

And Canada gets it's own fair share of immigrants from poorer countries so what does it say about Canada?
