I really believe in conviction and spirituality, but crap like this turns my stomache.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/on-faith/group-that-counts-islam-among-uss-ills-to-gather-in-detroit-home-to-large-muslim-community/2011/11/11/gIQAW2E3AN_story.html?wprss=rss_national

Leaders of TheCall believe a satanic spirit is shaping all parts of U.S. society, and it must be challenged through intensive Christian prayer and fasting. Such a demonic spirit has taken hold of specific areas, Detroit among them, organizers say. In the months ahead of their rallies, teams of local organizers often travel their communities performing a ritual called “divorcing Baal,” the name of a demon spirit, to drive out the devil from each location.

And it's not just the Islamic population they are after.

What these so-called Christians need to pray for is healing in Detroit. There are a lot of deep-seated issues in Detroit involving race and social status that need to be addressed. They need to pray for love AND reconciliation and pray that the sins of greed, racism, fear, anger, and hatred be no more. I guess they know nothing of the 1967 and 1943 riots.

I could not agree with you more. But that would cause them to feel empathy for others and actually feel their pain and suffering. And they are not interested in that. They much prefer to externalize their 'spirituality' into something that feels exciting or powerful. And does not require any sacrifice on thier part.

    Thank you!

It is dirty work to begin reconciliation in Detroit; it's a very poor city with many disenfranchised and angry individuals. Have these individuals taken a drive through Detroit lately? I highly doubt that they've taken a drive down the Schaefer Highway, Grand River Avenue, Outer Drive, Grand Boulevard, or McNichols Road to see what Detroit is really like. And I also take it that they know NOTHING of the history of the city and what lead to the rise of such extremist views among blacks and why some of them are so angry and pissed off.

What, as Jesus called the Pharisees, a brood of vipers!
