This is not the regular rant about "trying to get the closet case" cuz lord knows we go through enough of those... in this case I'm ranting about my frustration in seeing gay people in relationships with straight people in order to hide their sexuality... its just really eats at me... This island is full of guys like that... that Im pretty damn sure they must be gay, but they are dating girls, and their best friends are closet cases who date girls as well.. Its just sad :/ .. sad for the straight ppl that are being lied to, and used in a way... and sad, that we live in a world where everybody has to deceive one another to such an extent in order not to become rejected by society and feels pushed into lying to people, cheating on them, and using them as a front.... despicable really... sigh

    Rant over.... at ease men...

I hear ya- defo a sad state of current affairs for all involved.

However, in Jamaica for example, gays get killed for being out (i'm sure you'll know more than me about how things are on the islands), so I can see why it happens in certain cultures/locations.

Things are changing though, slowly but surely, more and more people are coming out/fighting for our rights/making a difference/being accepted/removing stigma, so the trickle-down-effect to other less evolved mindsets is surely only a matter of time (hopefully within this generation).

    ^ True to an extent.

Accross the world there is nowhere near to a blanket standardised and limited risk rate. Certain hot-sport locations, i.e, some of the Islands, Uganda, Iraq, Iran, Jamaica, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia (and the list continues, unfortunately), are places where a gay person's life is in a colossally significant higher risk of being taken, or grievously abused, than say in the Netherlands or Canada, et al.

They will fall.. the countries which criminalises gays will be made to conform to international law in time.

    But yeah, it stinks.

Nah - countries that get wealthier will seek fewer reasons to scapegoat minorities because the economic incentives to do so - and in fact embrace minorities gets higher. What's international law?

question? why do you care? how does it affect you? do they take food from your mouth? does them being in the closet take money out of your pocket? does them not being out keep you from living your every day life? if not, get over it and move the freak on

We care because we know how to empathize. We have a moral compass that gives us compassion for the victims of deception and of hate and ignorance. We care because we, as gay people, have most likely been in their shoes. We care because justice means more for others than it does for us. I refuse to get over it, my heart goes out to those in the closet and anyone who experiences the pain of duplicity and loneliness.

The original post reminds me of one of my education classes. We were watching a clip on educating children on the meaning and implications of being gay. The children, who have not been influenced by the biases of the world around them, are very open to the possibility of homosexuality. So what changes? The world tells them that it is wrong, and they learn to marginalize such people in their thoughts, words, and actions. We need to find some way to keep their openness that they originally had.
