I love sci fi...Sanctuary, to let your geek out...Tosh.O for laughing at people in the comfort of your own home...and monsterquest for needlessly scaring yourself...i'm sure this doesn't help, but I like that stuff...

Walking Dead is good, but it's only like 6 episodes. Flashpoint has been on for awhile. It's a sniper/hostage situation drama from Canada...

Check out Misfits. Best show I've seen in years. It's on Hulu (regular Hulu, not Hulu Plus). British show. Great characters, funny, crazy, gross, scary, awesome soundtrack. If America could only produce a show half as good...

Band of Brothers (old, but same vein)

    Definitely Walking Dead
    Rome & Spartacus

And if you are willing to get your geek on:

    BattleStar Galactica (new not old)
    Fringe (some seasons)
    Firefly

I'm not much of a scripted TV fan (hate sitcoms!!), but I'll second The Walking Dead. But the one show this season that I've found is a "must see" is on CBS called Person of Interest. Really good concept, good scripts, good acting.

I caught it on TV years ago...but still one of the better written shows I've ever seen. Very witty. You can probably find it online.

    Also:

Greys Anatomy (since you like character based drama; don't judge)
    Trueblood
    Sopranos
    Firefly

(Better than a lot of movies - you can stream them online to catch past episodes)
