I was just wondering if there were any other collegiate athletes out here on this site... I am not out and am trying to find other people who understand the situation of being an athlete and gay.

I chose my major over playing soccer in college. Still play club soccer and have been playing since I could walk.

I am not but Outsports.com always chronicles any that are. You should look on there and at least read some of their stories. Maybe you could message some of the guys that have came out and talk to them.

    Hey bud,

I played NCAA Div 1 tennis for UGA. I wasnt out and found it difficult at the time. There was a lot of pressure put on me and the team on how to behave and act in public, how to deal with press, on our public image. So I was very much afraid of coming out. Looking back on it now, I don't think anyone would have cared if I was gay or not. So don't beat yourself up about it. Not telling you to come out, but just letting you know that the situation is not as bad as you may think.

Hope you this finds you well

I think I might have seen that profile. Who is that guy? I'm always trying to look for pro gymnasts on RJ but to no avail so far. :/

I know there is at least one Div 1 rower on here. I met him when he was at a regatta near my grad school. icon_twisted.gif

We were NCAA champions - 2 of my years in college playing H20-polo. There were a couple of guys who were gay or bi, but we had to keep it private. Some of the team knew and were cool with it - the head coach as well. We also did our share of women in those days, and that kept the wolves from finding out about us. You just didn't broadcast it back then - thirty years ago was a different time.

LOL Yes it is a sport. However, it is almost expected for a male cheerleader to be gay. I do not think anyone would be surprised if a male cheerleader announce that he was gay.
