While I'm annoyed with the victim for many reasons (mostly political and ideological, though also for being in a stupid reality show) for someone to assault him just because he's a political idiot is pretty disgusting and only helps to perpetuate the view conservatives have of gay liberals (that they'll gladly turn on their own violently).

I has a feeling that this thread will divide itself by zero before the first 25 posts are in.

And that isn't saying much. It's like saying Del Taco is better than Taco Bell.

If this ends up being a Tawana Brawley type story where he staged the whole thing, what do I win?

Maybe he'll end up with a show on Fox News, just like Al Sharpton got one on MSNBC in spite of his vocal backing of Tawana Brawley.

    Excerpt from Wikipedia:

Attorneys Alton H. Maddox and C. Vernon Mason joined Sharpton in support of Brawley. A grand jury was convened; after seven months of examining police and medical records, the jury determined that Brawley had fabricated her story. Sharpton, Maddox, and Mason accused the Dutchess County prosecutor, Steven Pagones, of racism and of being one of the perpetrators of the alleged abduction and rape. The three were successfully sued for slander and ordered to pay $345,000 in damages, the jury finding Sharpton liable for making seven defamatory statements about Pagones, Maddox for two, and Mason for one. Sharpton refused to pay his share of the damages; it was later paid by a number of black business leaders.

I still can't believe anybody takes Sharpton seriously!

Is it that guy from the A-list: Dallas? lol

    Update:
Wow poor Taylor. I actually like that he is showing that a good portion of gay men can be religious and republicans. Even though it'd be stupid for anyone to think that those three things can't co-exists in one human.

I don't agree with his views and ideas either. But he made a very good point. How can we as gay men expect to be accepted by others if we can't even accept those in our community. We go on and on about acceptance yet we as a community are probably one of the most stigmatizing of and unwilling to accept the unordinary.

He as a person is very annoying and from what I’ve seen on that show, I do not like him. But I do like what he stands for. Hopefully he just gets his act together. And I’m glad that incident didn’t have a turnout with grave results.

How did the person know what car that he drove? Was this person stalking him? He got punched in the eye, but didn't go to the hospital? And he didn't fight back?

One thing that bothers me in this thread and in many public forums is that some posters draw big, sweeping conclusions from one incident where we don't have the whole story. There are more questions about what happened, who the assailant was, etc. I don't draw conclusions about all conservatives based on the behavior of one person in some incident. I do draw conclusions about conservatives based on collective actions (what they support or don't support, how they operate in the public arena), just as I draw some conclusions about liberals based on collective action or inaction.

Garrett said the incident reflects a troubling mindset.
“The Democrats want me to live on their plantation as their slave, because I’m a gay person,” he said. “And I refuse to do that.”

Self Loathing conservative gay men baffle me.

You support the far right wing of the republican party who won't even allow Log Cabin Republicans to have a voice in the party, would make homosexuality a crime, would ban all rights including marriage, believes you're going to hell, rather have gays and lesbians pretending in a closeted marriage over a happy transparent same sex marriage.

Yes, I get there are other issues on the political spectrum, however, for gay men who bash liberals who are at LEAST on the correct side of politcal argument of this is comedy to me.

Also, that isn't why I'm liberal.

    I'm ex military.

I believe in unions, helping and assisting the poor with SMART safety nets, a strong middle class, championing the plight of the underdog, central government over states rights, women's right to choose, and raising the tax rate of the wealthy 1-2 percent emulating the tax codes of Clinton era so we can balance the budget from George Bush fumbling us through post 9/11, 2 wars, recession and lowering the taxes on wealthy. How were we suppose to pay for a deficit for figthing 2 wars, recession, all with a declining tax base?

You can be a pro military fiscally responsible liberal, balance the budget, and not raise taxes on most americans.

I consider myself economically conservative and socially liberal. I don't like the republican party because they're more about helping the rich get richer through favorable regulations rather than creating a fair competitive market. So, I am conservative but not one the republicans who pretend to be conservative for patriotic points. Honestly, America would be Greece by now if we didn't have troops occupying a lot of the countries on earth.
