I'm confused: what exactly is being MUSCULAR and being TRULY RIPPED?

Is this subjective to the owner?

It is not necessary to illustrate every posting with an LOLcat. Besides, if they are over done, they will lose their punch.

    OMG...one more post to 4000

You're kidding right? They still have their punch? I think it was lost about 1000 pictures ago. I'm just saying icon_smile.gif

In terms of Truly Ripped vs Muscular, I'm kind of confused on that too, if we're talking about the profile option. There are tons of guys I would consider truly ripped or muscular on here, and there's a huge range between them, so I don't really have a clear idea of what each means.

I would say I am muscular. For me to be truly ripped I would have to lean out a bit and get a six pack. Basically make myself more chiseled and cut.

So being "ripped" is like the muscle fibers prominently showing underneath the skin, without necessarily being muscular?

Yes, my perception has always been that "muscular" means having a lot of muscle mass relative to your height, whereas being "ripped" means having a very low bodyfat percentage, i.e. well under 10%... you can be one or the other, or both.

Hmm... then why do I get the picture of that cover boy in the other thread "How Lean Is Lean?" ...or something?

Since it has been brought up.... what is the best way to measure body fat? I assume pencil/paper or a calculator won't be enough.

And do those digital weighing that takes your height first really that accurate? First your weight comes up then after 5 seconds you body fat percentage... supposedly.icon_question.gif

The best way to measure one's body fat is through toast: How many slices of bread could you butter with your love handles? Figure two teaspoons per slice.

All our toast would be dry if you were buttering it then, Squarejaw.

When I read Truly Ripped in someone's profile for some reason I tend to think "what a wanker".

Muscular means you meet, exchange greetings, go out to dinner, and have a great time.

Truly Ripped means you don't make it to dinner.icon_eek.gif

If you are "truly ripped" you certainly don't need to say it in your profile.

I don't mind people saying it in their profiles. This is a fitness site so it's relevant to the purpose of realjock. Also, I actually like confidence in men (and women). I think false modesty is kind of cloying and manipulative, so I like it when a guy will basically be like, "Yep, I'm ripped and I'm proud." They've worked hard for it, might as well bask in it.

Truly ripped to me means great ab muscles. Czarodzeij is an example of this. Caslon is an example of someone who is very muscular in my mind.

That's a good question. Clearly I don't fit any of these descriptions but that's what I'm working on. LOL.

I would say truly ripped would be a person who is lean with VERY apparent defination in muscles throughout the entire body and not just certain parts. I very well toned and defined body if you will. Lots of guys here do have that. I'd also like to add that in having those bodies they are also capable of using them for more then just show. That's truly ripped to me.

Muscular would be just as the word implies. Muscles. If any takes the time to look up the word and what it actually means they'll be better. I think Chucky at some point and time clarified what muscular was. A skinny person cannot call themself muscular since it requires you to actually bulk up. At best they'd be considered toned, defined, athletically charged, or whatever but not muscular.

Just an observant opinion of mine. For some it has different meanings but i guess as long as it makes happy then what's the harm.

innerathlete saidHmm...realjock posted this twice and won't let me delete it. Where is an LOLcat when you need one?

It does let you delete stuff.... you just have to scroll all the way back up to the top after the screen hazes before the delete confirmation.

While they're not mutually exclusive you can have both
muscular means mass >>> Big muscles
    and ripped means truly defined

Are you guys sure that Truly Ripped isn't just an extra rung on the Hot-O-Meter?
If you are hotter than all of the muscular men you know, than you must be Truly Ripped!
But who is gonna make that call for you!?

On second thought,I'm sure you could get a perfectly honest answer from Peter Ishkan if you were to ask.

I always thought "ripped" means BOTH that you have big muscles AND that you have that super-lean, shrink-wrapped look. Either one alone won't qualify you. At least that's how I hear it used in LA.

If someone is super lean with medium muscle, they're "cut."
