    That title is mouthful.

There have been other openly gay blacks elected as Mayors, but according to Denis Dison of The Victory Fund, Bruce Harris would be the first Republican.

Bruce Harris won the election to be Mayor of Chatham, New Jersey by ousting the Democratic incumbent Nelson Vaughan with 1,211 votes to Vaughan's 889.

The borough has 8,962 residents according to the 2010 census.

Specific to the borough he will represent, Harris will be its first black mayor and its first openly gay mayor. It's nice to see glass ceilings broken through across America. Where race and sexuality are no longer concerns for voters.

A Republican African American Male won an office. I'm surprised the media didn't try to smear him.
