My partner has problems with his back which causes problems when he is trying to do sit ups. Is there a machine or something that can assist him with sit ups?
I had him try using one of the big exercise balls and it was better for him but not good.

If just flattening his tummy is the issue, have him do RJ's Vacuum exercise.

    Thanks,
But he has to loose his belly. He has a 36" waist and would like a 33.

That vacuum exercise is a good exercise, and it doesn't even require a lot of movement. It targets whichever muscles are underneath the rectus abdominis (the six pack), and it's that lower layer of muscle that is really the "corset" that keeps your gut in. When I do any kind of abdominal exercise, I try to imagine that there's a string pulling my navel back to my spine. It's something they told us to do in a pilates class I took, and it seemed to work.
