I'm a Firefighter in San Diego. What's the attraction to men in my profession? What's hot about it to other guys?

I think it's the whole your suppose to be big, strong and fearless. It has a certain attraction for a lot of guys.

Plus I see so many firefighters around here that are hot that I think it just attracts hot guys to it.

Although most tend to be shorter then I am so I know I aint going over there shoulder in the event of an emergency haha

    The pants are fucking hawt...

The fact that a bunch of men live together, work out together, and save old ladies together is also pretty hot...

the local fire dept guys do their grocery shopping at wallyworld the same time as i do on early sunday mornings, dressed in their short-shorts and tight t-shirts.

i have followed them thru the grocery section for 10 minutes without putting anyting in my shopping carft.

I think the most popular reasons would be the uniform and the hero worship thing. Personally, I think most (but not all) firefighters tend to have fit bodies. Pretty much a requirement for the job. Also, they have a lot of downtime to workout and eat right.

Do a google image search for 'firefighter calendar', and you'll see lot of nice eye candy. icon_biggrin.gif

    I would follow them too.

Men in any profession who get to show their strength usually get all the attention. Who wouldn't want to be in the arms of a strong man?

Got that right... They could shoot for half an hour non-stop if the situation demanded it.

i think its probably a deep, multifaceted thing. I mean, here's a guy who is literally risking his life on a near-daily basis on the job. It speaks to his character on so many levels. And i will totally admit, that the suspenders look is hot on a bare-chested guy, but i think at the end of the day, you need to take it as a great compliment because you are shouldering a responsibility for your community that most grown men would run away from and alot of people, myself included, respect that.

I have to admit I love a guy in uniform. It's the fact that any guy who puts his life on the line each day to save or protect people (i.e. firefighters, cops, military, etc) instantly becomes more attractive to me. It also helps that most in these types of work tend to be in shape.

    Which firefighters?

    These guys:

    Or these guys?

Most of the firefighters in my town are overweight/obese. Not all firefighters are "calender" material (which is completely fine--neither am I). I suspect firefighters are like any profession: There are hot ones and not-so-hot ones. Would this "attraction" (as the OP stated) be different if the calenders never existed? I'm not sure either way.... Personally, firefighters never did anything for me--now a hot guy in a lab coat, scrubs, or a professor in a classy suit turns me on big time.

heh, when i spun my car out a block from the station at 1AM two months ago and limped it to their driveway, the young guy who answered the door was so hot i had to think of Margaret Thatcher just to focus on prying the bent wheel off the hub. So cute and so polite and helpfulicon_smile.gif

Firefighters (the majority anyway) have a persona of being:

1.) macho - they are brave, strong, courageous
2.) fit - most companies I believe require daily physical activities
3.) sensitive - what touches any person's heart more than the "cat rescued from the tree" scenarios?
4.) generous - they risk their lives in fighting every fire
5.) friendly - for some reason most if not all firefighters are friendly and outgoing. they are in uniform, but, unlike policemen, they don't have a position of authority

So, for any gay man or straight woman, there's not much more attractive person than a man who is macho, fit, sensitive, generous, and friendly. The only thing missing is wealthy icon_wink.gif

I think its because fire fighters are the one every day hero that no one ever gets pissed at and is quick to recignize what they do. I've always liked fire fighters but it has so much more than looks or anything like that. I know a few of them and they have always been fun loving guys and always up for a new adventure. I think that's what I find attractive about it. The personallity that most of them have.

Probably something to do with the every day version of a hero, and the physique. The yearly calendars definitely help cause the stereotyping :p
