So I have been working out for several years now and though I do improve now a bit I feel that working out with someone could be helpful and motivating to make greater improvement.
How do you find a gym partner? I feel like I would want someone who is better than me so I have something to push me forward. What is your opinion? what's the best type of gym partner and what is the best approach to finding one at my gym? icon_smile.gif

My gym has a Facebook page up and people post on there for workout buddies. Worth a shot if yours has one.

You could ask the desk staff, too...I've belonged to gyms where the staff knows the regulars and can introduce you to someone who could be a workout bud. Or see if the gym has a board for workout buddies.

    Some answers are so obvious.

"I feel like I would want someone who is better than me"
That might be a problem. Guys want to be equal and challenge each other. To me it sounds like you'd be better off with a personal trainer for now.

    My suggestions:
Go to the gym at the same time. I've made many friends that way.
Be friendly - say Hi, offer a spot, ask for a spot.
Go up to some of these "better" guys and ask them for tips. I've found that most, if not all of them, were more than happy to help.

I've asked for help from others at the gym and even asked a few that usually go the same time I do if they want to workout together and I basically get no. And they start working out at different times. Guess I shouldn't ask anyone else. It makes me think something is wrong with me.

I would love to have a workout partner so we could motivate each other and help each other reach out goals. Guess the only one I have is myself.

Good luck at getting a workout partner.

Just look for the hot guy who leaves his water bottle unattended long enough to drop a roofie in it.

I think it is hard to find a gym partner. Everyone's profile you read is looking for a gym buddy. Put some good songs on your ipod and go alone.

That's what I have done. Some good fast up beat songs help me a lot.

I wouldn't just go up and ask but eventually you will make friends and such if you work out at the same time. Remember, people at gyms see others come and go a lot, so stick around and they will be friendly.
