Being the Burnt Hot Dog at the back of the grill that no one wants is NOT FUN. Well Im starting to suspect that I'M THAT HOT DOG icon_confused.gif...actually scratch that I KNOW, I'm that HOT DOG =/. Perhaps if I can distract people from my face with a nice body, my chances of being alone forever will go down, PLUS, I want to start playing Rugby in the Spring and I definitely need muscle for that.

I used to be 135 lbs, I've been going to the gym and managed to work my way up to the 140's & mid 150's range, however, I have a very hard time maintaining a stable weight. Im also starting to think that maybe I'm not doing all the workouts right as now I just have a body with lines and no muscles.

Can anyone recommend any workout routines I should try so I can get bigger, more toned, and eventually have a nice, strong body, I'm not looking to be a ripped bodybuilder, but being somewhat ripped would be nice, however idk where to start. Any input would greatly be appreciated icon_wink.gif

If you feel like that, then you might want to haul ass out of Miami. Them racist Spanish people out there think that if you're not Olive/White Cuban then you're less attractive. You are NOT the burnt hot dog on the back of the grill.

In order to answer your question though, I'd like to know what it is you're doing in the gym that you feel isn't working? What is your current routine?

    Go see a doctor.

You used to weight 135 - that is pretty low, unless you were doing meth or something along those lines you were way too skinny. If you ate food and were unable to put on mass, this is a medical problem.

To top this off I read your profile where you said:
I'm not in anyway, shape or form interested in sexual acts with men (women for that matter)

Unless you have had a bad sexual experience, then you should have some sexual attraction for either/both genders. Something should peak your interest.

A low libido (sex drive) suggests hormone issues which could also be affecting your ability to grow muscle.

While you are tall, suggesting there was no problem with growth hormones, there are a plethora of other hormone issues that could lead to no sex drive (no interest in sex) and low muscle mass.

The most likely culprit is testosterone, however there are a few other chemicals that could be in play here.

Causes of low or imbalanced hormones can be from genetic 'oops' factors to underlying very serious illness.

I thus suggest (strongly) that you talk to a doctor, tell him about your lack of interest in sex and let him order up tests. A doctor will need a full and honest history in order to diagnose correctly.

    Oh and one other thing.

You have a very nice face, if I was 20 years younger I would be very interested in you. icon_wink.gif

Well if you're just starting out, I'd recommend a full-body workout with heavy weights 3 times a week, eat LOADS and get plenty of sleep.

You don't need to improve your body to distract from your face though, you're a good looking lad, improve your body for it's own sake.

I use these machines they have that are supposedly suppose to be a full body work out after you go through all 11 of them. But someone else told me recently i'd be better off using free weights.

well its not like I can't get hard, its just the things that get me hard aren't sexual. I've tried to talk to a therapist about it, they seemed more confused than i was though.

Thanks, I do want to improve it for its own sake as well.

Yeah, it's NOT hormonal, no need to go to a doctor. I'm a personal trainer, life coach, nutritionist and I own a gym. Dude, EAT. EAT EAT EAT. That's what I had to do.. I used to be 135 in my early 20's. I'm now 27 and 170. A great book to read that really helped me when I was younger is Scrawny to Brawny by Michael Mejia and John Berardi.

It has a great chapter on nutrition for the hypertrophy-challenged. It provides exercises, meal plans and all the knowledge you need to pack on the pounds. Also, make sure that you're taking a protein shake after you're work outs. If you want to be real aggressive, take a protein shake before your work out as well. Too much protein can be hard on the liver, so drink lots of water a day; between 3-4 litres. Sleep is really important for muscle growth. You need to get around 8 hours of sleep a night so that you're body has enough time to release the right amount of growth hormone to support your muscle recovery.

Trust me, buy the book, follow what it says and you'll begin to gain weight. Just remember, it won't happen over night.

If you have any questions, PM me.

I have to agree with G-Mack. Eating and not overtraining are key. If you're not eating enough and you're going in the gym 5 days a week for 2 hours a day you're basically just burning calories. You'll actually lose weight being on that kind of routine. I basically have to eat about 3000+ calories a day to gain weight so you're probably the same way. I'd also recommend that you don't focus on getting ripped right now because if you're focused on losing body fat and gaining muscle at the same time you're not going to see a lot of gains. Just eat as much as possible and focus on losing body fat later. You don't need to do cardio right now.

It's basic science.. If you want to gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you're burning. Keep a food log. You should be eating 6-7 meals a day; eating every two hours. If you don't have any nut allergies, snack on lots of nuts and seeds.

I would also recommend laying off the cardio completely. If you're concerned about cardio for cardiovascular reasons, do sprints on a treadmill twice a week. Do a 1:4 ratio. Run for 30 seconds and walk for 2 minutes, then run again for 30 seconds and walk for 2 minutes. Do it 5 times and call it a day.

Also, do you have any idea what your basal metabolic rate is?

I don't have any idea with my metabolic rate is, but Im sure it's pretty high. I can't keep weight on to save my life.

Thanks for the input guys, its appreciated icon_smile.gif
